A8n-SLI-Deluxe+AMD64 4K+Corsair ram settings help?!?

Hi All,

First sorry if this is a repeat question, I've tried to search on this but not found an exact match......

My system is as follows

ASUS A8n-SLI Deluxe

AMD64 4000+

2Gb corsair TWINX1024-3200C2PRO (4 sticks at 512K ea.)

2 6800GT in SLI (new)

I have the latest bios for the MB. I used to have a different graphics solution so my bottleneck has always been graphics. Now that I have these two cards in SLI my bottleneck seems to be core system performance.

In an effort to squeeze some more FPS out of my rig I thought I should look at my systems RAM setup. I'm generally pretty good with hardware and have a good general foundation of knowledge, but have never delved into RAM timing settings, so I'm a bit of a nub....

My BIOS setttings are currently on auto which reports my RAM as 333 with some pretty slow timings. I'm hoping someone cane tell me step by step (like in the system build section) what to set my system settings at for good performance *AND* good stability.

FYI I'm not doing any overclocking at all but do have a PSU that is a Antec true power so I should be good on that front (if I need to up voltage i mean)

Thanks in advance

Loki

Hi loki, your motherboard will set your settings to 333mhz with 4 sticks of ram. You are better off to put in 2 sticks 1024mb ram instead of 4, its a motherboard thing!

You could try putting it to 400mhz yourself in bios

and your settings for those sticks of ram are 2.5-3-3-6

It's NOT a motherboard thing. The memory controller (located in the CPU) is the culprit. Most Athlon64 memory controllers set the memory speed to 333 Mhz when running more than 2 sticks BY DESIGN. Also, the 2-3-3-6 timings are only guaranteed w/ 2 sticks.

guys,

Not sure about the 333 vs 400 thing, but what I'm really after is what are the optimal settings for the RAM I've got in the amount I've got, in the board I've got?

Especially considering I'm scaled down to 333 the *auto* settings for latency that the BIOS is picking seem rediculous.

Seems like I have read about people with 4 sticks at 400 though, bu maybe they are just full of it and bragging I dont know....

Just a quick update to anybody with same mobo-RAM that might be following this thread...

I sucessfully set my DDR speed to 400 with the following timings. (this is from memory cuz I'm at work right now).

400

2.5

2

2

3

1t/2t set to 2t

Is this good?

Try 2.5-3-3-7 with your memory. (You will need the 2T command rate setting with 4 sticks.)

Also, you may want to bump up the DDR Voltage (found in the JumperFree Configuration menu) to 2.80V.
