jrgeoffrion
Hi, I recently built a new system with 2Gb (1Gb 2x) of Corsair Value Select (VS1GB400C3) and then added 2 more Gb. My digital image processing software (CaptureOne) was working fine with 2Gb but now crashes systematically with 4Gb. After reading, it appears that this is a symptom of bad memory. I went on to read how to test the RAM and downloaded Windows Memory Diagnostic from Microsoft as I operate Window XP Pro x64. The test called Stride38 failed at address bfc4bb38. However, I do not know how to identify which of the two new sticks is faulty (assuming only one is faulty and not both). Can you help me identify and replace the faulty stick (or sticks)? Thanks in advance, JR G.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 30, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 30, 2006 Please set the Dim Voltage to 2.7X volts (+.2 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, XMS2700C2 Cass 2-3-3-6 for example or if you have Value Select "BY SPD" and then test the module/'s one at a time with www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. jrgeoffrion
Ram guy, When I read your e-mail, I obviously missed the FOR EXAMPLE 2-3-3-6 and thought it that's what you wanted me to set since I gave you the specific of my module. Now, my PC won't boot because of "failed memory test". 1) How do I get back to the previous settings in my BIOS? 2) Also, where is the DIM voltage adjusted, a little more info could be helpful. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 30, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 30, 2006 You will need to reset your bios, check the manual in section 2 it will explain how to reset the bios with the CLRTC jumper. Just un-plug the system and remove the battery and move the jumper to clear the bios for about 1 min. Then when you get the systen back up just load setup/optimized defaults and set the memory voltage to 2.75 Volts should be all you have to do.
