br-
I've been spec-ing out a system with an Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard and an AMD FX-57 CPU. Even though it's an SLI board, I'll only be running 1 video card. Nothing has been purchased yet. The purpose of this system is running Matlab simulations, so I want to put 4 modules of 1GB dual channel RAM in the machine. I was considering getting 2x TWINX2048-3500LLPRO since they have pretty low latency (2-3-2-6). However, I've been hearing that there are problems with the A8N32-SLI and 4x1GB modules. Is it wise to purchase this combination of hardware? Is there other Corsair RAM that will work better in this situation? Will other chipsets handle 4GB of RAM better than the nForce4? Would a non-SLI board work better with 4GB (since I'm not using SLI)? Does anyone have a stable system with this combination of hardware? Thanks in advance. Any information you have regarding this would be helpful.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 28, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 28, 2006 With an FX-57 if you use 4 modules you will be limited to DDR333 at 2T command rate and more than likely you would have to relax the timings. In addition, what O.S. will you be running? if its Windows XP I would not suggest more than 2 modules for best performance.
john turner
to add to what the ramguy has said, unless you intend on using the 64-bit version, windows can't access memory addresses that high, so it will be unavailable for use.
TeknoGeek
Why does it fall back to DDR333 and where can I find info on this? What's the likely-hood of OC it back up? Does it always fall back if all 4 slots are populated with 1GB modules, or is specific to some memory module constraint? I've wondered why the A8N32-SLI QVL listed some 1GB modules as being able to populate all four slots and others to only populate two... I'm waiting for my A8N32-SLI to arrive and was looking upgrading my memory from the PC3200 4x512 I'm currently using in an A7N8X-E. I'll be dual-booting XP-Pro and XP-64, so I could use the extra 2GB on the x64 side.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 2, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 2, 2006 Why does it fall back to DDR333 and where can I find info on this? Memory controller limitation! I'm waiting for my A8N32-SLI to arrive and was looking upgrading my memory from the PC3200 4x512 I'm currently using in an A7N8X-E. I'll be dual-booting XP-Pro and XP-64, so I could use the extra 2GB on the x64 side. With the 64 Bit Version of Windows you will be fine but if you plan on using WinXP I would stay with 2 modules for best performance.
