r00723r0
Hi, I'm having problems booting. My specs are in my profile (I think). I get continuous long beeps, and my POST code is 04, which is a memory error. I have 2 sticks and I tried both and one in every single possible combination of slots. I even got a new pair of the same type of sticks. NOTHING works. I just got a new board, in fact, and it STILL doesn't work. Perhaps the board and the sticks are incompatible? What could I be doing wrong?
Wired
What is the exact part # and revision # of each stick? Is it a TwinX pack? How To Read the Memory Label Test one stick at a time in each slot using Memtest86+ and the following settings: CAS Latency (tCL): 2 RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3 Row Precharge (tRP): 3 Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6 Memory Voltage: 2.75 Volts All other settings to defaults. leeghoofd
Normally the ram should work fine in the board. Things you can do : Try to boot with one stick of eg a friend. Get into bios raise DDR voltage ( default setting at 2.6 volts which is a bit low for Corsair ram 2.7-2.8 required to run stable). Also the PSU is weak mate, it's 420 watts, I doubt the amperage at 12 volts is sufficient to power it all (single rail needs 24 amps minimum), you can unhook all optical drives and the older 3GB hard drive, to see if it will power up then. I suspect this because you already got another board and other dimms (would be exceptional that either one or both are dead on arrival) Also verify that you hooked up all power connectors to the board, and that there are no shortcircuits with the case. If you can get it to boot, raise the voltage liek mentioned and update the bios to 18 version ( this is till now the most stable version for the ABit motherboard, 19 again has issues ) Also the best settings for this ram ( I had them too ) is CAS Latency (tCL): 2.5 RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3 Row Precharge (tRP): 3 Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 7 (6 works also but 7-8 is the best overal value for Nforce4 chipsets)
r00723r0
A few things. 1) I've tried a different power supply - 480w. Still doesn't work. 2) At another forum, they said it could be my watercooling. I'll try to put a stock heatsink fan on when I get home. 3) My computer doesn't even POST, so don't tell me to change BIOS settings :/
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 26, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 26, 2006 If the system will not post with either module one at a time I would suspect some other issue. All of our modules are tested on a MB at the tested settings before they leave our factory. So it would be verry unlikely you got 2 dead modules from us. Have you tried the modules one at a time like in slots B1?
leeghoofd
For the no boot I suggested a ram dimm from another system ( so another ram type) to exclude the ram-mobo incompatability . also did the bios detect a rpm of the CPU fan ? Any safety enabled there ?, hook up the Boxed fan to the CPU fan socket on the motherboard and see if it boots then. Look into the Uguru if CPU fan monitoring is enabled !! For your powersupply change, wattage means nothing you need for a single rail PSU 24 amps or more and for a dual rail one 18 amps at both rails to get good overal stability. r00723r0
Again, I cannot even POST, so I cannot use the BIOS. As for the CPU fan header, yes, that was my first issue, and it's resolved, but I'm still getting issues. I'll take a look at other power supplies, but I highly doubt that the power supply has anything to do with this. I've tried the RAM in EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE COMBINATION, single channel and dual channel (it's a TwinX set). As a side note, I thought that the best overclocking settings for RAM in an overclocked Venice environment would be 2.5-3-3-6. What would be the best? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 26, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 26, 2006 Thats a mute point if the system will not post. I would suggest testing the modules with another system to be sure but since you have replaced the MB I would maybe try and repalce the CPU. And if you want to over clock I would just set the timings to By SPD to start with and set the voltage to 2.8 Volts and test with http://www.memtest.org. r00723r0
Is it possible that the CPU is faulty? Would it even start to POST if the CPU was faulty? I already have memtest86+, and had it since I had Linux.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 26, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 26, 2006 From what you have posted yes. Test the module in another system then you can take the memory out of the question.
r00723r0
Will it damage my computer if I were to put those sticks into an old AMD Athlon (not XP, not 64) 1.2GHz setup? I don't even know the socket, but I'm sure they didn't have 400MHz RAM back then.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 27, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 27, 2006 They may not work in that system, but you can try it should not hurt them.
r00723r0
Well, it didn't, so I got brand spanking new King ston HyperX 2x512MB DDR400 RAM (tested by ABit on the ABit AN8 SLi). Same thing. Seems like there are two possible reasons why my computer isn't working - CPU and power supply.
r00723r0
I'm going to try to replace my CPU, then I'm replacing my power supply. If it doesn't work after that, what do you guys suggest?
