TWINX2048-3200C2 + ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 @ CL2?

Hi Ramguy,

first off let me congratulate you on a great forum. Many useful hints can be found here.

Maybe you can help me with this issue. I'm planning to get a pair of TWINX2048-3200C2. They are recommended for my ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 as the most popular. Now for my question: On several occasions I read that CL2 memory will only run @ 2.5 in AMD systems. BUT: I remember reading a news topic on corsair.com (which I can't find anymore) which stated that as of now all XMS memory can run @ CL2 in AMD systems too. The product sheet pdf on corsair.com says so too.

What is the current situation on CL2 and AMD? Do you have any other suggestions regarding Corsair RAM and my ASRock 939Dual-SATA2? Should I buy other sticks?

Kindly

Pommbear

EDIT: The Corsair Labs Performance Report says it detects as 2.5-3-3-8. But the actual timing is displayed as 2-3-3-6. I'm confused by that. Which means what? Link:http://memtest.corsairmemory.com/print_report.aspx?model=ASRock++939Dual-SATA2&pn=TWINX2048-3200C2&id=5087

3200C2 on Athlon64: 2-3-3-6

3200C2 on AthlonXP: 2.5-3-3-6

The SPD of the 3200C2 is set to 3-3-3-8, but they are warrantied and rated @ the afforementioned timings. In otherwords, they'll run those timings fine, you just have to set them manually.

I got to thinking...

After checking on RAM prices I saw that the TWINX2048-3200 is 40 EUR (50 $) cheaper than the TWINX2048-3200C2.

Are they worth the higher price performance-wise? Does CL2 make such a big difference nowadays? I remember someone saying that this was more of an issue a couple of years ago. Is the performance gain measurable or is it only for the enthusiast overclocker?

Whatever you tell me is gonna flow into my decision-making process. One of the two kits it will be, but which one? :D:

Regards

Pomm
