Probably bad 512 Mb Value Select module

Recommended Posts

After having some problems with BSOD's reffering to memory errors I decided to give Memtest86+ a go to check my memory modules, and of course I got some errors (only like 3-4 per round, but still errors). Since I'm running a dual channel configuration I first tried to move both modules to my motherboard's second pair of slots, with no luck. I then tried the modules one by one in the same slot, and found out that one of them worked for at least one round of Memtest, while the other one didn't. Of course no part except the graphics card was overclocked during the tests.

The system used is as follows:

AMD Opteron 146

Corsair Value Select Dual-Channel kit 1 Gb (2x512) @ 200 MHz @ 2.5-3-3-8 @ 2.6 V

ASRock 939Dual SATA-II with german 04XX BIOS (has proved it self being a lot more stable than for example OCW Beta 2 for this motherboard).

Hiper Type-R 480W PSU

Should I contact the store where I bought them and deal with warranty issues there? Also, since this is a dual channel kit, should both modules be sent in, or just the faulty one?

And a last question, would it in any way be possible to instead of getting two new Value Select, getting some 2x512 TwinX modules via my local store, and pay the price diffrence? Or is it only possible to get the same type as I send in for RMA via the store?

Best regards,

Yes I would try the store where you got them, if they will not or cannot help you. Then please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part! Or *New* Tech Support Express” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
