Possible Bad XMS Stick

Recommended Posts

Here's what I have....

MB: MSI K8T Neo-FSR (MS-6702)

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ NewCastle @2.0GHz

Memory: 2 sticks Corasir XMSPC3200C2-512

The two sticks are not matched, but they have been running at DDR400 2-3-3-6 since I bought them last year. The sticks are in slots 1 & 3.

About a week ago I noticed my system running slower than it should. I did some investigating and found that my RAM had clocked back to DDR266. The first thing I checked was the BIOS setting for the RAM. It said that it was set to AUTO. So I tried the "Limit" setting and forced the DDR400 setting. This did not change anything. However, if I take one of the sticks out it runs at full speed as it should. One stick is older than the other so I took out the newer one. Everything ran fine so I tried putting the newer stick by itself and it also ran at DDR400 no problem. With both of the sticks in at the same time it went back to DDR266.

Any Ideas?

OK

I ran memtest as you instructed.

It said my settings were: RAM: 133MHz (DDR266)/ CAS: 2-2-2-6/

This is after I manually set the timings, frequency, and voltage to what you said. It just doesn't take. However, If i go into the BIOS the settings that I changed are still there. This is so strange.

Anyway, Memtest came up with 25 Errors. All at 85.0MB with a bumch of hex and other stuff that I don't understand.

Please set the Dim Voltage to 2.7X volts and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have (Cas 2-3-3-6), and then test the module/modules one at a time with www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure
