Catharsis
a while back i posted my problem here and it was semi-resolved but now has popped back up so I am here to figure it out once and for all.. here is the same post i have made at the ABIT forums ***Hello everyone and thanks for your time in advance. Here is the issue. within the last 4 months i bought a new MOBO, CPU and HD abit av8 VIA k8t800p AMD athlon 4400+x2 CPU and a WD80gig SATA and from my old system i was using my corsair xms ddr 400 twinx1024-3200xl memory 512x2 MY current problem is that with BOTH memory modules installed i get random crashing (BSOD) in graphically intesne 3D games, it is not my video card as it never gets above 60 degrees or so in there. I'ts pretty much just q4 and COD right now windows keeps telling me it has recovered from aserios error and says its from the RAM. I have ran winmem for about an hour on each stick with no errors and it worked fine in my old board. NOW, last night i got the bright idea to check the manual and see if it wanted the memory installed in any specific way and no it does not, then i alternated slots. still crashed.. THEN i removed 1 moduel and tried it and i have had no crasshes or any type of problems for a good 5 or so hours of gaming. I have the memory setup in the BIOS to whatever the specs are(like auto set but i can't remember the name)RPD or SPD So to me it seems the motherboard doesn't like my memory setup but i need to know if i can make it work as i don't have the cash to get new memory right now and technically it SHOULD work fine.. so if anyone can help or if anyone needs more info I will be checking this quite frequently. Oh, i am also going to post a similar message in the corsair message boards Edit/Delete Message**** K, since then someone asked about my PSU, and it's an antec 2.0
Wired
CAS Latency (tCL): 2 RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 2 Row Precharge (tRP): 2 Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 5 Memory Voltage: 2.75 Volts (Warrantied up to, but not over, 2.90 volts) 2.70 ot 2.80 if 2.75 not available All other settings to defaults. Catharsis
K, I made those changes to the setting and i crashed again with both sticks in. so it's not the settings. I don't have a floppy drive right now so I can't test the memory, I will pick one up tomorrow *EDIT* how long should i run each stick in each slot for? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 24, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 24, 2006 I would try and set the memory voltage to 2.8 Volts and you should let memtest run one each module one at a time for 2-3 passes to be sure one is not failing. In addition, what PSU do you have and what do you have the command rate set to?
Catharsis
I don't believe i have an option to set mem voltage in the BIOS the PSU is antec 2.0 480w and I don't know what you are referring to about the command rate *EDIT* more info, CPU external clocl 204/68/34 multiplier x11 agp ration 6:2:1 voltages CPU 1.35v AGP 1.55v DDR 2.80v someone in the abit forums pointed out that the memory controller is on chip.. so that brings another part into the problem
Catharsis
i started to stress test with prime95 and within minutes had errors, so i am now testing each stick in each slot..
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 24, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 24, 2006 Please use http://www.memtest.org to check the modules. If you have a failing module you will get errors in memtest. If you have a software problem, you may get errors with Prime 95 not to mention Prime 95 has never been validated with any AMD based CPU. Sometimes people just test it by putting it in a machine and running a few programs off it. The deal with that is, if you plan to do that you definately should do it one stick at a time. Reason being you can have one stick work perfectly and the other have errors. If they are plugged in at the same time you might not always get errors. Catharsis
nah, he said he tested em with memtest and each stick individually.. for 15 minutes a piece.. and when i took the memory there I was having these same problems.. so its not like it appeared afterward..
