Difference between 2 single modules or a dual channel kit

Can I buy 2 separate modules instead of a dual channel kit, and use them as a dual channel kit? Thanks in advance.

It depends. You'll never know what you'll get when you go the individual-module route: A lot of times, you will get two completely different revisions of the same module, with completely different IC chips - and that may cause serious compatibility problems, especially with modern platforms such as those using AMD Athlon 64 processors.

Thanks. I guess I won't go that route then. The reason I was asking, is cuz I want to buy 1GB of 8000UL or 5400UL, but I can't seem to find the dual channel kit anywhere, but have stumbled on a couple of individual sticks.

Still don't understand why Corsair would discontinue the UL series??

Actually, the UL series of XMS DDR2 memory isn't discontinued per se; it's just that there's much greater demand for such modules than there is supply of. (As in the IC chip makers simply cannot produce a high enough yield of their top IC's to meet demand.)

And you can trust purchasing individual modules of the UL series of DDR2 memory, in this case: The top-end memory tends to use the very same IC chips.
