abs0lut3
I purchased Corsair PC3200 DDR400 Value 1GB kit last June in conjunction with my dual channel capable Foxconn 655A01-LRS motherboard. When I first installed it with the configuration on my current computer, it was working fine for about three months (maybe less) then I started to get shockwave error messages on firefox. It first showed up with Firefox 1.0.6 beta then 1.0.7 made it bad then Firefox 1.5 made it worst. What was shockwave error became BSOD. At first it was random but it became progressively common. It was the checksum error. I thought at first it was my processor that wasn't certified to use for the board so I bought this Asus P4S-800D-X with the same chipset where I thought it would cure the problem but last night I left it on because I was downloading something and I got another BSOD. This is a fresh install by the way. I just got the brand new motherboard last Tuesday, installed everything on Wednesday, fire it up on Friday and I got the BSOD this morning, Saturday. Do you think I'm having a problem with the memory from the beginning? Is this something that would be possible for RMA? Thanks in advance!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 23, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 23, 2006 Please set the Dim Voltage to 2.7X volts (+.2 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, XMS2700C2 Cass 2-3-3-6 for example or if you have Value Select "BY SPD" and then test the module/'s one at a time with www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. abs0lut3
Unfortunately my Asus motherboard does not have such features and I have tried them on a 648FX chipset equipped board as well. I believe I got an error message but I did not write it down for reference. I was trying to put them on with a Willamette 478 Chip with 400FSB from stock memory speed all the way down to 133Mhz speed because it is the only 2x512Mb memory kit I have available on my household. I haven't tried memtest yet because I have to find my floppy drive somewhere in the storage but I did come across four error messages for the past couple of days: - STOP: 0x0000008E (0x0000005, 0x805509E9, 0xB851283C, 0x00000000) - PAGE FAULT IN NON-PAGE AREA and on two reboots, I got: -win32.sys Address BF805D11 base at BF800000, Date Stamp 43446a58 plus: "Access violation at address 3247476F in module 'cp3240mt.dll'. Write of address 0094073C" I don't know if any information above is relevant or not but I should be able to give you of the memtest report this very weekend. Thanks. UPDATE: I swapped my Corsair with a pair of 256MB GeiL PC3200 2-3-3 I have lying around in my room and it works considerably superb. No errors so far but I am going to let it run for 24 hours for observation to see if the error can be reproduced. If not, it looks like I have to go back to Fry's to get my old receipt because I lost it somehow.

Which was what you reply just above here when I presented my case to this board. I had resent them another reply with the link to this thread basically to tell them that yes I had gone thru everything I was asked to do and the result is basically the same. I was just disappointed that I got a little bit of "runaround" of what supposed to be the simplest one ever (hopefully painless!).

Garvin
Is this your motherboard? http://usa.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3&l2=12&l3=45&model=407&modelmenu=1 Is this your motherboard manual? http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock478/p4s800d-x/e1753_p4s800d-x.pdf According to your manual the two sticks should go in the blue slots (DIMM_A1 AND DIMM_B1) for dual channel operation. All of the timing settings Ram Guy asked you to manually set are in your bios under the "Advanced" tab, then "Chipset" then "Northbridge Si655FX/TX Configuration". Dram voltage setting is probably an option under "AI Overclock Tuner" when this is set to "Manual" instead of "Standard". Good luck.

Read the first post then you give me clues to what is going on. I don't know what in "the motherboard does not have voltage adjustment" that you don't understand. I did my research before I purchased that motherboard and it is my second motherboard, by the way, since you were too lazy to read my first post. There is no AI Overclock Tuner software included in the board files CD either. If it was there, it wouldn't help me go past 3.8 stable anyway as I did with another brand of memory I have as a back up. Besides, I have the Corsairs for space not for overclocking. abs0lut3
He's trying to help, relax. There is a million ways to help. His way wasn't one of them. Instead of what he wrote up there he could've said: "I don't know what else to tell ya but good luck" I would've appreciate that more than ever. RAMGUY-I sent the memory in yesterday so I guess I should get back like sometime next week then?
Garvin
In your later post you state that your board's bios doesn't have the features that Ram Guy asked you to set manually, "Unfortunately my Asus motherboard does not have such features". All I was trying to do was point you to where those features are located in your bios so that you could set them to the values Ram Guy called for as your Asus board does have those features/settings buried within it. Good luck and have a very nice day.

Look, I acknowledge that you were trying to help but you were trying a bit too hard to help everyday. You just can't. I'm sorry. FYI, The only Asus SiS 655FX board that has voltage adjustment is P4S-800D Deluxe. D-X wasn't meant to be an enthusiast board therefore Asus deleted those features. It is not burried. It just does not come with it. Period. I have read the manual for my motherboard front to back 100 times before I made my purchase. How about this: Buy the damn board for 60 bucks at computer3g.com, build it, start it up and see if I was wrong. If I am wrong, I'll pay you 60 bucks. Deal? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 27, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 27, 2006 Let's just try replacing your modules, but if you still have problems I would encourage you to consider a new MB if possible.
abs0lut3
Ok the modules are here. I just received it this afternoon. I will put the CPU speed back to stock and replace my current memory with the new modules. Now, according to CorsairMemory.com, this VS1GB400KIT can be use on my motherboard BUT it only listed the VS1GB400KITC3 at 3-3-3-8 so I'm not sure if I can effectively use the CL2.5 VS1GB400KIT on my motherboard or not. I'll let you know in 24 hours time to see how it goes. EDIT#1: I put every settings back to stock. I double check that AI Overclocking setting just incase I missed something (the board description online said I was supposed to have CPU, Memory and Northbridge Voltage adjustments but I checked the BIOS and found NONE). I set the Northbridge to read the memory "BY SPD", saved everything and rebooted. CPU-Z picked it up as 2.5-4-4-8 (which is stock rating for the VS1GB400KIT) and everything looks normal for now. I will update this as the 24 hour period passes.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 3, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 3, 2006 You should be fine just load setup defaults and set the memory voltage to 2.75 Volts and you should be good to go.
abs0lut3
You should be fine just load setup defaults and set the memory voltage to 2.75 Volts and you should be good to go. Mr. RAM GUY, with all due respect sir, I do not know how many times do I have to repeat myself: my motherboard does not have memory voltage adjustment option on the BIOS. It's not under AI Overlocking and it's not under North Bridge either. Therefore, I could never adjust the memory voltage to 2.75. So is this the part that you're going to tell me to buy a new motherboard?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 4, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 4, 2006 Then I am not sure these modules will run in your MB if you cannot set the voltage. But we can try replacing them again is all I can offer, sorry!
abs0lut3
Then I am not sure these modules will run in your MB if you cannot set the voltage. But we can try replacing them again is all I can offer, sorry! It is running fine so far. I don't know, I read in the manual that CMX256A-3200C2PT will run on this motherboard. If I'm not mistaken, TwinX3200C2PT 2GB kit is running the same chip and it's on sale at Fry's. I might get them to put in this computer if infact the memory develops the same error after 72 hours. LET's hope it doesn't post errors...
abs0lut3
After 36 hours of observation, I would like to report that the computer is running fine. Thank you for all your help RAM GUY. You can close/delete this thread now.
