CaptainKorea
I recently built a new computer and previously i had a corporation build my computer "Overdrive PC" and i had an AMD FX-51 processor and he told me that the ram was registered to the motherboard because the processor required it. I was wondering how i would go about registering the ram to another motherboard because i had to change out motherboard and processor to use my new x1800 xl video card. And if it was at all possible to unregister the ram to my old motherboard and then register it 2 my new motherboard because there has to be an alternative way then buying another pair of 512 sticks.. well, thanks for your time ^_^. ~Nate
Wired
You can't register memory. Memory is either Registered (buffered) or unregistered (unbuffered) by design. Unless you've got some REALLY REALLY expensive memory, and a couple of electrical engineering degrees, you can't change the memory from one to another. What they meant is that the FX-51 uses registered memory, and that they placed registered memory into the system. What new Motherboard do you have? What is the exact part # and revision # of each stick? Is it a TwinX pack? How To Read the Memory Label

"Registered" memory is also known as "buffered" memory; "non-registered" memory is "unbuffered". Get it? In your case, since you have an FX-51 Socket 940 processor, you MUST use registered (buffered) memory, such as the TWINX2048RE-3200 modules (ECC is optional with the Socket 940 processors, but registered is required). If you bought unbuffered memory (such as the TWINX2048-3200C2), you will not be able to even POST with your FX-51.

Wired
That memory isn't compatible with that system. Socket 939 systems won't work with registered / ECC memory, although from time to time people have reported getting 1 registered / ECC stick to work in them.
