Hey guys, just built a new system.

a8n32-sli deluxe

3800 X2 w/ Zalman 7000alcu cooler

TwinX 2048 4000 Ram

Evga 7800 Gt

Ultra Xfinity 500w 120mm fan

for some reason at stock speeds i get an error in prime95 in under 1 minute and whenever i play a game i get a random crash after about 5 to 10min, and i get random reboots as well. Anyone have any clues? I'm kinda pissed i thought i built a sweet system and its unstable even at stock...

UPDATE: I turned off automatic restart on system failure, seems like i'm getting BSOD's most are metioning the NTFS.SYS last time this happened on a system build it was my Ram, it just so happens that ram was corsair as well... : /

Let's troubleshoot it first.

What timings / speed / voltage are you testing the memory at? Are you testing one stick at a time, in each slot? Which memtest and version are you using?

What CPU / FSB / Motherboard do you have?

this is out of the box timings with no overclocks at all, everything is running stock speeds.

i'm testing the memory in its normal dual channel form, newest version of memtest.

The Specs are in the first post but here they are again

Athlon X2 3800, a8n32 sli deluxe, if by fsb you mean front side bus i'm running at auto. I can't bother to overclock if its not even stable at default settings. just added my settings to my profile as well. The system is so unstable i have to use my girlfriends laptop.

by the way arn't twinx memory modules pretested prior to shipping?

i'm starting to think i picked the wrong ram, but it showed this ram as the best for OC'ing on the compatability. This memory doesn't want to seem to run in dual channel mode, i had it working when i put both memory sticks in non dual channel mode. but thats no good. i see alot of other people using 3500ll and stuff like that. maybe i should switch. or will this ram be better if it starts to actually work? be it an rma or some magic bios button lol.

I am moving this to the troubleshooting thread, maybe you'll get more help there! Good luck!

so this RAM set isn't really the "ideal" set to buy for my system is it? i figured running ddr500 would be WAY faster than running the xms 3200 but i guess i might be wrong. Just out of curiousity what would you guys choose for the ideal overclocking Ram for this system? I was thinking i could overclock my x2 3800+ from 2.0ghz up to about 2.4 using a zalman 7000b alcu cpu cooler. Figured this ram would be a nice compliment. Running the fsb at like 250 and a 9.5 or 10x multi

I was having exactly the same issue, same motherboard/memory etc. Exchanged the memory twice, swapped processor, and setting the timings manually to what was listed by corsair with no effect.

Turning the external clock down to 200MHz with all the other timings listed by corsair seems to have corrected it. Ran prime95 overnight with no errors. Normally it fails within 5 minutes. I'll try stepping up the external frequency a little until the system becomes unstable again. For now I'm just happy that it's running without crashing every few minutes. Would I be better off swapping the memory out for a different type like the 3500LLPro?

that is weak... i seriously hope that i don't have to run the memory at 200mhz. Now i'm thinking that the Corsair memory matcher online is incorrect either that or something else is screwy. glad to hear i'm not the only one. Let me know if you've found any other info or posted anywhere else. I'll do the same for you in case i find anything new out. I'm still waiting to get my Ram back from zipzoomfly. Where did you pick up your stuff from? If its zipzoomfly i'm going to wonder...

No, I got mine from mwave. I also tried the twinx1024 4000pt from best buy and it was the same deal. Only stable if I set the external clock frequency to 200MHz. I haven't tried stepping it up yet though. It might be ok a little higher than 200, but 250 was definately unstable. I haven't decided yet if I'll just return it and get the 3500LLPro instead.

Other people have had to use some old memory to get into bios and manually set the timings, then put in the corsair ram and get up and running. Mine wasn't so bad that it wouldn't boot but it wasn't stable until I set external clock to 200 MHz. I couldn't tell from your post if you tried that or if it locked up too quickly in BIOS.
