abcminiuser
Hello! Three weeks ago I purchased a Compaq Presario M2000Z laptop. The advertisement (and blurb at the store for the product) specified that the system used 256mb of DDR533 memory. This is not enough for my purposes, but the laptop was extreamly cheap and the other specs were perfect. But now I wish to upgrade the system RAM to a bare minimum of 512mb. I used the Corsair compatibility finder, and got three compatible memory modules - a 1GB (CMSS1GB-333SOD), a 512mb (CMSS512MB-333SOD) and a 256mb (CMSS256MB-333SOD). The finder also specifies that my system's maximum memory amount is 2GB with two memory slots. However, the three modules listed run at 333MHz. I was under the impression that the "533" in "DDR533" meant 533MHz. Am I wrong, or is the store wrong? The 512mb modules are cheap, at AU$73 each (http://www.shopbot.com.au/p-7632.html). 1GB of memory would be plenty; is it possible to purchase two of these modules and replace the existing 256mb stick of RAM with them? Thanks! - Dean
Wired
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks/compaq_presario&series_name=M2000Z_series&catLevel=2&tab_switch=true&tab=specs http://msn.pcworld.com/reviews/test_report/0,prodid,26331,00.asp# The store is wrong. The only type of 533 memory that's out there is DDR2, and AMD systems don't use DDR2 memory yet. Must be a typo.
abcminiuser
Helpful and prompt, thankyou. Looks like 2x512mb PC333 SDRAM sticks are the way to go. - Dean
abcminiuser
Looks like the online info has been corrected. Would it be ok to keep a 512mb in one slot (corsair) and the original 256mb (god knows) in the other? - Dean
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 21, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 21, 2006 They should run together, but I would suspect that you would get better performance with just our module installed. But you can test it with http://www.memtest.org to be sure
abcminiuser
Yes, wouldn't suprise me. I need about 512mb for all my apps, and the graphics card takes 128mb of the system memory. I think i'll buy the 512 Corsair, test in in tandem and then buy another if they doesn't work together correctly. Bonus would be that i'd have two Corsairs :D... abcminiuser
Will do. I'm going to a computer swapmeet this weekend and if I can't find any decent RAM there i'm going to order the Corsair online. I've been burned by bad generic RAM before, hence why i've decided to shell out the few dollars more and try the decent stuff. My last Compaq laptop was extreamly finniky with it's RAM, but i'm hoping this more modern one will work like a charm. I'll write here once I purchase and test said RAM. - Dean
