wishmonger0
i've got 2 sticks of 512mb corsair xms memory. clock speed for them both is 400mz or pc3200. i've run memtest86 on the ram and one of this sticks has shown errors. I work at a lan facility and the tests were run in an ansi 20.20 compliant service bay area by experienced technical staff who recommended i post here for a solution or RMA number because corsair ram has a lifetime warrenty on it. the ram modules are less than a year old and if i could get some help on what to do next i would really appreciate it. thank you for your time and i look forward to your response. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 20, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 20, 2006 Can you tell me our modules part# (How To Read the Memory Label) and the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
wishmonger0
i have no performance settings enabled on either the bios board or OS. i'm using an ABIT NF-7. the sticks used to work in the system and suddenly the one started malfunctioning. CPU is an AMD 2800+ with i believe 400mhz fsb? the settings for the bios are default for the MB ram and processor with no overclocking or tweaking at all ever done to them. i am doubble checking the module's part # when i get home. i'm at school responding right now. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 23, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 23, 2006 AMD 2800+ would run at 333FSB and the memory would need to be set to DDR333 so its in sync with your CPU.
wishmonger0
not according to my motherboard specs for the nf7-s which states that the clock speed of 400mhz is fine for ram settings even when the processor fsb is different. not arguing just sayign what it says in my manual. i was never told that you must change to match your processor speed before this. not in my ram or any guide. is this just an optimal setting or a required one? and the number you requested is xms3202v5.2. thank you again for your help in this matter. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 24, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 24, 2006 I would suggest you talk to the MB maker then, but this is a chipset limitation not MB limitation, the MB maker cannot change the properties of the chipset. And if you use a 166 FSB CPU or higher the memory frequency has to be 1-1. You might get the system to run out of sync but if you run a memeory benchmark I think you will find the performance is the same as PC-2100 memory even running at DDR400. wishmonger0
thank you for the response. i've talked to the maker and also tried the memory in another system that supports my ram. i'm surprised because my motherboard says it is capable of handling pc3200 up to 3gb. but anyways i tried in a newer nforce 4 motherboard running an AMD 4200+ dual core and tested the memory again with the memtest 86 program. again i'm getting errors, and the problem i'm having is the same plus the memory worked in the old motherboard untill recently. i've tried your automated return and have yet to get another confirmation with an RMA number even after referencing this set of posts. How should i proceed now to replace my memory stick?
