sekhmet
I have an Asus A7V333 motherboard and VS1GBKIT333 1 gb corsair memory kit. Lately my computer has been locking up, etc, so I tried a fresh install of Windows XP and that didn't help. Then I thought maybe the RAM was bad, so I tested it with memtest86+ and found errors in the memory. I did a search on this forum for my mobo and ram combo and couldn't find anything. What BIOS settings do I need for this mobo/ram combo? I think I read something about lowering the voltage on the motherboard because the default is too high. How do I do this? Could this have trashed my RAM? What steps do I need to take to verify that my RAM has errors and if it does what do I do to have these chips replaced? (I figured the first step would be to contact support on these forums =) Thanks for your help!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 19, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 19, 2006 Dim Voltage for A7V333 from http://www.asusforums.org Also I would install the modules in slots 1-3 or 2-3 and test with http://www.memtest.org. sekhmet
Ok, I now have the chips in slots 1 and 3, but I'm confused by the JP1 and JP2 issue. Originally they were set like this, the jumpers were vertical (not horizontal): -------- | | | -------- | X | X | -------- | X | X | -------- J J P P 1 2 Should I set them like: -------- | | | -------- | | | -------- | X | X | -------- J J P P 1 2 Or like this: -------- | | | -------- | X | | -------- | X | | -------- J J P P 1 2 I got this from the Asus web site: The jumper is to adjust DDR voltage, JP1:1-2, JP2:1-2 is 2.6V, JP1:1-2, JP2:2-3 is 2.9V. If the voltage is 2.9V, and is uncampitable with the DDR memory, the system will be unstable, then the jumper should be adjusted to 2.6V position. And the link you gave me was a little confusing. I'm not sure what the ii and !! mean there. I've attached a diagram of the A7V333. Can you tell me what to check for in the BIOS? edit: bah, forum took out the formatting on my awesome 3D ascii drawings =)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 20, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 20, 2006 Jumpers JP1 and JP2 located in front of the AGP Port behind the audio out port. These settings we not published and default was set to 2.75 Volts. If you are having trouble with memory try setting the Jumper's to pins 1-2 (2.55-2.59 Volts). Pin one is closer to the AGP port. ii 2.55 - 2.59V i! 2.75 - 2.80V !i 2.85 - 2.90V !! 2.95 - 3.00V I would talk to the MB maker if you still have questions! sekhmet
I would talk to the MB maker if you still have questions! Ok, I'm back... I've verified that the pins on JP1 and JP2 are correct for 2.5v. I've also run MemTest86+ v1.65 and found errors on 1 of the memory dimms. I tested both of my memory dimms, one at a time, and in different slots. Only one of them (the one that was closest to the CPU is showing errors. What's the next step? How do I go about returning it for an exchange? Do I have to send both (they were a matched pair)?
