Reiver
Hi, i've been having trouble with my memory. I've been suffering quite a few blue screen crashes (page fault in non paged area) and from searching on the net it suggested the problem was with my RAM. So i got memtest (the one that can be run in windows, not memtest86+) and it reported lots of errors. I fail superpi (not exact in round) and when i use prime95 the cpu test works ok but when i try the test that uses memory it fails. Before i RMA'd the RAM i tried memtest86+ to be 100% sure and it passed with no errors after running it for 6 hrs. Is my RAM faulty and memtest86+ isn't detecting it or is there another cause? My RAM is Corsair (TWINX2048-3200C2PT) 2GB (2 x 1GB Matched Pair) DDR PC3200 2x128Mx64 non-ECC 2x184 DIMM unbuffered 2-3-3-6 64Mx8 DRAMs Matched Pair Silver Heat Spreader Lifetime Warranty
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 17, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 17, 2006 Can you tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
Reiver
Bios settings for cpu are at default (200htt etc.). Settings for RAM are 1t 3-3-3-8 at ddr400. Thanks for the quick reply.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 17, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 17, 2006 I would set the memory voltage to 2.7 Volts and set the command Rate to 2T and test them again. In addition, please make sure that you have the latest bios.
Reiver
Ok i'll try that, thanks.
Reiver
I tried them one at a time to see what made the difference. Updating the bios made none as did upping the voltage. However dropping back the command rate to 2t seems to have done the trick. I was able to run memtest (windows one) through 100% and super pi completed a 16m calculation. Reiver
Does that mean my memory is faulty? If it's able to run at reduced performance it must be the RAM?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 17, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 17, 2006 If you have a newer core CPU I would suspect its the CPU or MB bios that just dont like running at 1t Command rate.
Reiver
Is there a way to be sure that's the case? My old memory ran at 1t alright although there was only 1gb of it.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 17, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 17, 2006 You can look up your part# on AMD's site to be sure. But we have no problem replacing your modules if you like, but I would make sure that you have the latest bios and try and load setup defaults and then set the timings to be sure its not a bios issue.
