JimmyC
I recently purchased a 1xVS1GB400C3 to be the only memory module of my system. I started having lots of funky memory and reboot problems, and need some help. My motherboard is an A7V8X-X Rev 1.xx with a Bios Date of 03/02/2004. AMD Athlon XP 2600+ Even if I am not able to use this memory to it's full extent, I was hoping I could get things up and running. I did download the windows memory test software, and it gave me all types of errors...I was not sure if this was because of some type of timing thing though. I checked all the settings, and almost everything is set to Auto. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -James

JimmyC
Sorry, but I am under some deadlines, so I am trying to get this system running with 1GB as quickly as possible. Getting support in this way seems a little cumbersone. Anyhow, if no one has a response then at least this is a bumpzor.

JimmyC
As I continue to stuggle with this, I have been unable to find the voltage setting reffered to in other posts. I do have the most recent non-beta BIOS now. Also, I noticed that the memory's first point of failure (from my memory tests) seems to vary, which leads me to think it is a configuration problem of some sort. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If not, some way to get a refund would be great, as newegg referred me to you guys. Thanks, -James

JimmyC
I am using the most current version of Award BIOS. 1)I am only using 1 stick for a total of 1gb of ram. 2)If there is a place to set the DIMM voltage in this BIOS, I have been unable to find it. 3)I see no 100% frequency option. usually the options it gives me are 333 or Auto. Please advise further, or let me know if I should go the RMA/Refund route. Thanks again for your help, -James
JimmyC
Just did a bit of research on the motherboard, and it looks like the Dimm Voltage is non-settable, but preset to 2.7V. Is it time for an RMA? Thanks, -James
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 18, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 18, 2006 You would need to talk to your reseller to obtain a refund, but we would be more than happy to replace them if you like. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part! Or *New* Tech Support Express” and we will be happy to replace them or it! JimmyC
I just received my RMA, and will get the memory stick in the mail tomorrow. I do still have two questions... 1)The advice was to set my computer frequency to 166. For my computer the ideal speed setting is 133 with a 16 multiplier to get 2133 MHz. By switching to 166 I need to use a 12.5 or 11.5 multiplier to get 2083 Mhz or 1916 Mhz. Okay, I realize that a 50 MHz hit is not going to end my world, I doubt it is even noticeable, but I have giving anything up? Is this an absolute necessity? 2)I noticed when I ran memtest that it was always bits 0x00002000 that failed. I really am hoping at this point that it is a memory stick failure as opposed to a configuration mishap. I would think that the fact that it was always the same bit would indicate a memory failure, is this a correct thought or am I missing something? Thanks again for all your help, -James

Okay, I realize that a 50 MHz hit is not going to end my world, I doubt it is even noticeable, but I have giving anything up? Is this an absolute necessity? A: A 2600+ runs at 166 MHz by default and the suggestions given were based on the hardware you posted not what you are over clocking to. If you are having trouble with an over clocked setting you should use default settings for your CPU to isolate it from being a configuration setting. A: Sometimes yes, but that could be several things that could cause that type of error. What test or tests are you getting the errors on? In addition, when running an AMD Athalon XP CPU if the CPU clock frequency is at 166 MHz and higher the memory frequency needs to be in sync.
