Pandora
Hello! Back in July when I built my PC, I bought a gig of Corsair ValueSelect (512x2). In November, I bought an additional gig of the same ram (both purchased from newegg.com). After installing the second gig, I began to get ram errors in Windows. They were sometimes so bad that I got a lovely blue screen. Once, I had to repair Windows (which takes hours, once you factor in reloading all the updates, including SP2). After that, I took the ram out, and ran without error. Taking advice from another terrific PC site, I obtained Memtest86, and ran it first on the oldest set of ram modules. No errors. Today I put in the newest set, and got 120 errors, and a very red screen ;): Seems to me I need an RMA, please. Thank you! BTW, it's been more than 30 days since my purchase from newegg, and according to their site, I'm out of their return window.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 17, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 17, 2006 Please reset your bios with the new module installed and test them by them one set at a time to make sure it's not because they are made at different times. And I would load setup defaults after you reset the bios and set the memory voltage to 2.7 Volts. If they pass add the old set and set the memory voltage to 2.8 Volts and test again with all four. If you still get errors with the new set then please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part! Or *New* Tech Support Express” and we will be happy to replace them or it! Pandora
hmm, how do I reset my bios? Pop the motherboard battery? Or is that to reset CMOS?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 17, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 17, 2006 Please check your MB manual.
Pandora
Well, I reset my bios, but I couldn'd find anything in bios that allowed me to set the voltage on my ram. I tested the old set, new set, then both sets together, all three tests ran fine (although the third test with both sets took well over an hour to run). The while playing City of Heroes, I had two ram errors right in a row that cause the game to crash to desktop. A Windows window came up and said that the memory could not be "read." This is incredibly frustrating.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 30, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 30, 2006 Under Jumper Free you set AI Over clocking to manual and then you can set the voltage.
Pandora
Okay, I found the settings (mine were actually 2.75 and 2.85 volts). When I had both sets in and set to 2.85 volts I got 5 errors during test #6. The test also took nearly an hour and a half. Whaddya think? (BTW, I went ahead and requested an RMA, since your first post said if I still had errors after adjusting these settings...)
