3200XLPRO broken after troubleshooting other ram?

Recommended Posts

I'm inquiring as to why my computer would be spontaniously restarting constantly. I replaced my TWINX1024-3200XLPRO with my friends TWINX1024-3200PT to see if his ram was corrupted. It indeed worked fine. But after getting my ram back immediately after, I am encountering random restarts after very light load. After running memtest under the automatic latenencies (2-3-3-5) CAS 2.5 it found no errors. After running it under latenencies designed for the ram (2-2-2-5) CAS 2, it found 1 error in test 3, 36 errors in test 5, 1 error in test 6, and 1 error in test 8. I am assuming the ram is the suspect after replacing it. I have yet to see if it is module specific by using one module at a time. Any other suggestions?

I understand that the ram needs a higher voltage now. But why did it work before at those latenencies. It also restarts spontaneously no matter what latencies you have them at. So, is my ram possibly damaged? Should I start testing individual modules. My friend just gave me his 3200PT so I am going to try that when I get a chance.

Also where can I find the voltage settings for the ram?

In your bios, under Advanced, under Jumper Free Configuration, arrow key down to DDR Voltage and hit enter. Using Auto for this setting may have set the voltage back down when you tested your friends sticks. I think 2.6 volts is the default, which is low for your sticks. good luck.
