Does Flash Voyager works with W98 ?

Hi everybody,

I have purchased the 1GB Flash Voyager and it works perfectly with my WXp based Pc and laptop but I cannot use it with my older computer with Windows 98 (not SE).

I have installed the Flash Voyager Utility first but nothing, then I downloaded and installed the W98 Driver and nothing. The drive is not recognised.

I know that I cannot use the USB 2.0 speed with this OS but I thought when I purchased the product that it can be used with W98, although with USB 1.1 !!

Thanks

I have downloaded all the updates from USBMan and WindowsUpdate but the pen is still not recognized. When I plug it the blue light flash but I can't see the "Corsair" drive beside C: and the others drives.

In the system requirements was written W98, not "W98SE only"

Will the drive work in another system? If not lets try replacing it. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part! Or *New* Tech Support Express” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

The drive works perfectly in WXp Systems, but in the computers with Windows 98 that I have at work it doesn't.

The updates that there are in UsbMan are intended for W98SE, I have installed them although I have the first edition, I don't know if it's convenient to install the unofficial service pack...

I'm not sure if this will work in W98, but in XP I had a problem that the drive wouldn't show up in the Explorer window, but the drive was being seen by the computer. In my case, a networked drive was using the F: position and therefore XP wasn't smart enough to assign G: to the flash drive.

The way to get it to show up was to right-click on "My Computer" and select "Manage".

Click on "Disk Management".

In the top-right pane, right-click on the disk you want to assign a permanent dirve letter to and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths".

Click "Change" and assign the desired drive letter.

Click "OK".

You only need to do it once and the computer remembers the setting from then on.

Hopefully this will also work in Windows 98. I don't have a W98 box around to check to see if this method will work or is even available.

In Windows 98 you have to add a statement in Autoexec.bat LastDrive: X I think if remmeber right. Check the help file for autoexec.bat and config.sys

Also if the device is listed in device manager please remove it and let the system restart to redetect it.

Its on the root of your HDD. Open a connamd Prompt and type CD c:\

then you shoudl see the courser like c:\> if not try CD.. till you do. Then type edit autoexec.bat

Once back at DOS type "edit c:\config.sys" (without the quotes)

In the config.sys window look for anything that says LASTDRIVE=x (were x is the last drive letter). If you do not see this line go to the very beginning of your config.sys and add LASTDRIVE=K (or the letter that you want to be the ending letter. Note this must be anything between C and Z.

Once you have made the changes go up to file (if you do not have a mouse press Alt+F) then choose exit and say "Yes" to save the changes.

Reboot computer.
