Kildurin
I just put together an AMD 64 system with ABIT Fatal1ty MB and TWINXP1024-3200C2 memory. Memory was suggestion of Fry's where I purchased all the components. Problem is that running Memtest86+ continually results in errors. Errors are intermittent and happen in stage 7 or 8. So, I went to Frys and bought another pack and put it in instead. Results are the same. Pretty sure MB is OK but that the settings are incorrect. The options to the Fatal!ty are many and have a number of tweaks from the standard. I am using the 2-3-3-6 recommended by the Corsair selector. Am I barking up the wrong tree here? Should I have bought different memory? I started a new test after complete erasing and resetting the CMOS.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 11, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 11, 2006 Please make sure that you have the latest bios and then load optimized defaults and set the memory voltage to 2.8 Volts and set the timings manually to the tested settings and see if that will solve the errors. If not I would try another PSU based on what you have posted.
Kildurin
OK, am upping the voltage now. PSU is 550 Watts and is an Ultra X2 550w Silver PS. BTW, there is another power connector on the motherboad at the bottom that supplies additional voltage to the MB. I never hooked this up and am wondering if this might be an issue. It says in the manual that has something to do with PCI-X. It is not the 24 pin power feed or the 4 pin CPU feed but is in addition to that. Thanks for the suggestions. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 12, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 12, 2006 I would connect all of the connections and you should have a 24 Pin PSU I think.
Kildurin
I moved my memory from my old system (AMD Athlon 64 3200+ on ASUS AN8-DLX with matched pair of PNY memory) to the Abit system and the Corsair memory to the Asus Motherboard. The ASUS sets the setting to 2.5-3-3-7 and the Corsair memory is fine. BTW, does not support Dual Channel. Memtest 86 ran over night. 23 successive tests successful on both Motherboards. PNY memory on the Fatal1ty is now recognized as DDR/2 Dual channel. I am happy to leave it this way but would prefer the Corsair memory in the Abit system. But as yet have not found a set of settings that make it work. The things I did try per your suggestions still resulted in errors in tests 7 or 8 on the Fatal1ty. (Could not replace the PSU due to money issues and it is brand new. Frys will not take it back unless it is not working. Also, they do not agree that it is part of the memory issue.) Is it possible to use the 2-3-3-7 setting on the Fatal!ty? I suspect the BIOS is not correct as yet on the Fatal1ty and it is incorrectly setting the memory. I updated the BIOS and found I had the latest version. On another subject, Frys sold me TWINX-3200C2PT and TWINX-3200C2 memory. Both Revision 1.5. Can they be used together in the MB? Is the only difference here the heat sync? I loathe taking things back to Fry's because I am sure the C2PT memory will be what they replace (C2 was purchased earlier). What would you suggest?
