madmix
Hi, Hope you can help. I'm just about to purchase the Abit AN8 Ultra Motherboard. I'm planning to fit 2GB of RAM in the form of 2 x Corsair VS1GBKIT400. In other words this is two sets of matched pairs of 512MB DDR400 non-ECC, Unbuffered, CL2.5 memory, making four sticks in total. This would seem to be fine, but having downloaded the manual for the Motherboard, I notice that section 2-3, table 2-2 "Unbuffered DIMM Support For AMD 939-pin Processor" shows the following : In 128-bit Dual Channel mode, when all four slots contain "Single rank", the Default Setting is DDR400. In 128-bit Dual Channel mode, when all four slots contain "Double rank", the Default Setting is DDR333. I'm not sure what the difference between single and double rank is? This has confused me as to whether the memory configuration I'm planning to use will work at DDR400. If anyone could clarify this for me, I would be grateful. Many Thanks, Chris
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 11, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 11, 2006 It would be best to replace what you have now with one VS2GBKit400C3 set of modules for best perforance. If you install 4 modules in that system you may be limited to DDR333.
hexx
Yes, I am thinking about the same thing...Well it if there is an option to swap VS1GBkit4002.5 for the VS2GBkit4003 (+i will pay the difference in price) i will do it, but I don't know about such a service. I am running a bit overclocked with bios settings for memory 166MHz which gives then 195MHz. Do you think that with these settings should work another pair of VS1GB 400 kit 2.5? Please, let me know ASAP
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 26, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 26, 2006 I am sorry we do not sell direct and would not have way to do that type of transaction. I would just try to find another use for the modules you have now and then get new memory for best performance.
hexx
Is there any chance that I could damage modules? Because my flatmate has exactly the same kit like I have, maybe it is worth to ask him, maybe buy a beer or chocolate, but I would like to know if could somethink happen
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 26, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 26, 2006 Yes you can damage the modules. Memory and CPU are very sensitive to ESD.
hexx
even if i will try with default settings without overclocking??
