kheesk
Hi, Currently running a Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe board (Bios rev. 1016) with 1Gb (2x 512mb) of 3200XLPRO RAM (v1.1) (voltage set at 2.75). Problem is, I received another 1Gb of it over the holidays (1GB TwinX 3200XLPRO, v1.2). So, although I've read the forums and realize I have to change down to 333mhz instead of 400 and and go 2t. So I went into my BIOS and changed to the above settings, saved them, let the machine finish booting, power it off, and install the new ram. Here's the issue. I get a "system failed memory test" message and the machine won't boot with all 4 sticks in. To add to the confusion, I've tried both sets individually and they work fine (1.1; 1.2). I've also tried both sets in the combination of (1x 1.1, 1x 1.2) together, and both sets still work fine. I only have an issue when all 4 are in the machine. I've tried the sets straight and with the versions mixed in the slots, but same error. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I would hate to waste a free gig of good RAM! Wired
May want to up the voltage a bit (say, 2.8 volts, but don't go above 2.90 volts, max the warranty covers). Loosen the timings, as they're only guaranteed @ 2-2-2-5 w/ one pair.
Garvin
Did you set the timings as well? The memory controller on your Amd processor is very picky about having matching IC's on all 4 sticks. Your mismatched pairs may be close enough if the timings are set manually as well and not by "spd" or "auto". Worth a shot anyway.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 11, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 11, 2006 DDR333 would be suggested when you have 4 modules and I would try and set the memory voltage to 2.8 Volts and set the timings to Cass 2.5-3-3-7 as well. kheesk
I ran a mixed pair of the 1.1 and 1.2 modules last night just to see test the system stability. After a few bsod's and crashes it looked like one of the sticks might be bad. Running memtest 1.50 on each stick individually.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 11, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 11, 2006 I have no problem replacing them, but I would set the memory voltage to 2.8 Volts and test them one at a time to be sure. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part! Or *New* Tech Support Express” and we will be happy to replace them or it! kheesk
DDR333 would be suggested when you have 4 modules and I would try and set the memory voltage to 2.8 Volts and set the timings to Cass 2.5-3-3-7 as well. The saga continues... OK, I tested all 4 sticks at 2.8v at 400mhz, 2,2,2,5 1T and all are fine (well, 2 errors on one stick in 8 passes), so far better results than when I had it at 2.75v. So I dropped the timings to 333mhz, 2.5-3-3-7, 2T and save bios, and power off. Insert my second pair of RAM, and still get a memory error on the board. Removed the 2 new sticks, change the settings to 2.85v, 333mhz and 3-3-3-7 2T to see if that helps. Unfortunalty same "system failed memory test" error echos through my speakers. Just got this board back from ASUS as a replacement for my RMA'd one. Anything else I can try to get the 4 to work together?
kheesk
any further suggestions on this one?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 19, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 19, 2006 As long as all of the modules are the same part# and revision then I would susspect there a problem with the MB or CPU. Can you test the modules in another system?
kheesk
OK, I realized when I had initially tested each stick it was with the downgraded settings for if I had all 4 sticks running. I changed back to a manual 400mhz, 2,2,2,5 1T and tested again with voltage 2.80, and 2.85. Still getting errors with test 5 at a minimum of 10 passes. I have run the Mem test on the stick 3 nights in a row and get errors consistently, although the amounts seem to vary from 10 errors in 30 tests to 22 errors in 44 tests. Error always occures at 107.5mb and 123.5mb. Occassionally other errors on varying tests and mem addresses as well. The system is not overclocked in any way. I'm going to go and RMA the set and refer to the thread. Hopefully they will send a v1.2 set as replacements.
