jave
I have a problem combining vs512mb400 and vs1gb400cl3 parts on a msi k8n board. I first made the misstake thinking I could have two 512mb parts and one 1gig part, which I cant on this board. I then tried combining one 512mb and one 1gig part, in correct sockets according to docs, and this works for a while, but the box hangs about twice a day. I had weeks of uptime in the previous config with two 512 mb parts. Is there any way to make this work? Is the problem missmatched cas latencies? Shouldnt the board pick the right timings by itself? Im running Linux. Also, my mem knowledge is from the Z80 era so I dont have all terminology clear.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 12, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 12, 2006 You should not Mix memory with most MB's today and these two parts ate the same speed bu they have different timings and may not work together. Can you tell me the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
jave
Thanks for your help! The mb is a "msi k8n neo2" amd64 running at 3000. fsb is 400. The bios just says "auto" for all timings.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 17, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 17, 2006 If using the 512MB and 1GB you will need to run in single channel mode 333MHZ. This information is based on information giving by MSI in your manual.
