Fredster
I have an Asus A8N-SLI board that I want to put two pair of the XMS Twin1024-3200C2PT into for 2 Gig. I am wondering if that particular type will work, and I also was wondering what the suffix "PT" after the 3200C2 meant. I ordered the 3200-C2 but got the 3200-C2PT. Will this work filling all four banks? I have the AMD Athlon 64 processor. Thank you for your time, F.P.
Wired
PT = Platinum colored It's better to run 2 x 1 GB sticks than 4 x 512 MB sticks, as most Athlon64s will lower the memory speed ON PURPOSE to 166 Mhz from 200 Mhz because the memory controller can't handle the stress. chillipepper
Sorry but I had to revive this thread from the dead. I was originally interested in the PT suffix information as well, but saw the followup post about how upgrading to 2x1GB was faster than upgrading via 4x512MB. Does this hold true on Intel based boards? I'm using the Asus P4P800 Deluxe and was just about to order a pair of 512MB. Can I also get a quick down and dirty explanation as to why this is the case (at least for the AMD if it doesn't apply to Intel)? Thank you much, Jim
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 14, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 14, 2007 Yes that is true of any un-buffered chipset if you use more module the memory controller may need to slow the memory down to keep the system stable.
