Asus P5WD2 Premium

Recommended Posts

I purchased the Asus P5WD2 Premium with P4 840 EE CPU and Elsa 660 GT card.

I was recommended the wrong ram - VS1GB667DDR2.

Two strip would boot but not four.

The Corsair site says TWIN2X2048-6400PRO is the recommended module. I would prefer the TWIN2X2048-6400 as they cost less.

1. Can 2 pairs of these boot?

2. What are the overclocking settings for optimum performance?

Thanks

You would really need a bigger PSU with 4 modules but this MB should be able to run four VS1GB667DDR2. But with four modules you may need to set the memory frequency to 533 MHz. And I would set the memory voltage to 2.1 Volts as well.

I have been using P5WD2 Premium with 2 512M 667 Sims (VS1GBKIT667D2) for over 6 months now and have been very stable. I just purchased another VS1GBKIT667D2 and I can't get past the USB post message which is followed by the memory message. Anyway the system simply hangs. I initially suspected faulty dimms but when I just put in the 2 new dimms alone and it worked. I tried just about all the combination on the 4 memory banks and the only combination that won't work is if 4 of them are installed. I can boot up fine with just 3. I have set the memory timing to 5-5-5-15 and voltage to 2.1v and changed timing to 553 and got the latest bios and still didn't work. I have disabled most of my hard drives in order to save power and nothing changes. What else can I do? I just want to have 2 gig of memory. Can I get 2 1-gig modules instead of 4 512meg modules? Given up my current 4 512megs seems to be a waste.

I recently picked up an Asus P5WD2 Premium and installed the VS2GBKIT667D2. I am having mad problems with system stability. I can install a single 512Mb module of the same specs (make, model, speed) with no issues. So the 1Gb modules may not do you any favors. I'm in the process of running memtest for any possible errors. I also don't see having to reduce speed to 533 when the memory is supposed to be 667. Otherwise I would have bought 533...........

Please load setup/optimized defaults and then set the Dim Voltage to 2.7X volts (+.2 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings if you have Value Select "BY SPD" and then test the module/'s one at a time with www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure.
