OSTSHomeskillet
Recently for some unknown reason, my computer will not boot after being off for sustained periods of time. I later find out that clearing the BIOS will allow it to boot again. Note here that during troubleshooting I noticed that only one or two or none at all of the LEDs on the RAM turned on... I lived with having to open up the case occasionally to boot the system due to the minimal amount of down time the computer had. But until today, one stick of the RAM gave out, followed by some flavorfull smoke... thankfully no harm done to the motherboard, and hope that the RAM slot is still OK. Any questions for me, or do I simply get directed to fill out the RMA form next? Thanks!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 22, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 22, 2005 That might suggest a power problem if the system will not turn on with out resetting the bios. But I have no problem replacing the modules for the dead LED's if you like. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part! Or *New* Tech Support Express” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
OSTSHomeskillet
Thanks for the quick reply! As for powersupply issues, this is a brand new 550 Watt Antec NeoHE PS... the RAM and motherboard have been working flawlessly for some time now (6+ months). The system will only refuse to boot when it is completely unplugged from the wall. If you shut down, and wait a few minutes it will still boot just fine. I also noted that the removal of one RAM stick and reboting with only one in, also did the same trick as clearing the BIOS. Then I would simply turn the system off and re-insert the other stick of RAM and it woul boot just fine. I highly doubt a PS issue. I have read thru the links in your signature and nothing seemed to help. All issues dealt with Timmings and defective parts that prevented a system post. Thanks! OSTSHomeskillet
One thing I forgot to mention. Because I had the case open to clear the CMOS? (just realized i might be using improper terminology whoops - anyways), When the system booted again, I saw the smoke as well and smelled it. It definatly came from the RAM slot and the burn marks are visible on the RAM stick itself. Thanks again!
