wingnutLP
I have a set of new corsair TWINX2048-4000PT ram that ought to run at 250 mhz but it will not get anywhere beond 234mhz in either windows or memtest. I have checked memory config thing on site and it says this ram is compatible with my MOBO. Any suggestions? Alex
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 20, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 20, 2005 Alex, This MB will not support the CPU you have listed if its a socket 940, are you sure you have a socket 939 Opteron? In addition, this MB may not over clock that high, can you test the modules on another system to be sure.
wingnutLP
it is a 939 opteron The fsb on the board will run up to 350 with the ram on a divider and the chip on a low multi so it should be fine. my understanding was that if the ram is listed as compatible with a particular board then it was guaranteed to run at that speed and those timings on that board... Is that not the case? I can test in a DFI board later today. Thanks for your help. Alex
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 21, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 21, 2005 Alex, Just because the MB maker gives you the setting to over clock your system that does not mean it will be able to support the setting officially. And no I think you miss-understood the options. The memory frequency would need to match the CPU Frequency. In addition, when we tested this MB it topped out about 220-230 MHz. wingnutLP
I will test on a dfi board but just to clarify: When you sell ram that is PC4000 and list it as compatible with a specific motherboard that does not mean that it will run at those speeds in that motherboard? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 22, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 22, 2005 No only that they would be compatible. XMS Qualification and Testing Please look up your modules part# to see the MB and or MB's we use to validate the specific part.
