LiquidEL
I am currently running 1gig (512x2) of Corsair XMS ram. My problem is that I run dual memory mode and I want to buy the right stuff to add another gig and remain in dual memory mode. (P4, ABIT IC7-G) Currently running perfect at 2-3-3-7. Here is the specs from on the silver sticker on the ram... CMX512 - 3200CPT XMS3202 v1.1 0317049 XMS3200 512 400MH CL2 Here is my issue... The original purchase is from PCClub (good place that is down the street) and the sticker they put on both of the Corsair plastic ram cases has their item # on it. (A4330213) When I search their site for that serial number it comes up http://www.pcclub.com/product_details.cfm?itemno=A4330213 with some ram that has the exact same specs as this ram... but it does NOT look the same. The picture here is black ram, as opposed to what I have, platinum/silver ram. Could someone point in the right direction (besides PCclub) for the proper (identical) ram at a newegg or zipzoomfly type on online retailer please? Also if I decided to go to 1024x2 instead (of 512x2) could you also point me in the right direction as well. Price is of a concern, but Im more worried about getting adding the fully compatible ram to what I already have. Thanks.
CMC_SAVAGE
It's not recommended to mix different Version#'s of RAM. The v1.1 are not made any more. For 2GB I suggest the TWINX2048-3200C2's.

Like CMC_SAVAGE says, it's not recommended to mix even different revisions of the same RAM, let alone mix different modules, in any modern platform. As for the black versus platinum/silver RAM, all it is is the different-colored heatspreaders. The memory modules of both RAM are from the same group of modules. LiquidEL
No go? Dang it. Ok so would have to just remove what I have, in order to add more ram? Well Corsair... that sucks.

Wired
It's also not their fault that the ICs used for v1.1s in general aren't made anymore (making an assumption based on the previous posts in this thread, dunno their production status and whatnot). LiquidEL
Ahh, so the ICs are made by another company and not Corsair? Effectively this could be a never ending process? I could buy something with plans of adding more later... and in a year they wont make that stuff anymore?
CMC_SAVAGE
I could buy something with plans of adding more later... and in a year they wont make that stuff anymore? That's pretty much the case. The IC's are made by Winbond, Samsung, ect. Whenever the IC is changed the RAM modules are assigned a different version# v1.1,1.2,4.1 (for example) and so on. Most memory manufacturers don't make ICs (1 or 2 exceptions).
LiquidEL
Does there remain a chance that I could drop in a gig of the linked RAM and have it work just fine? Same stuff but different version. I run it in dual speed mode btw.
