alexjl
For a X-Mas gift I plan on giving a person more ram as a gift. They currently have two Samsung M3 78T6553BG0-CD5 modules installed. They are 512MB PC-533 DDR2 sticks. Corsair has some nice value ram for a fair price http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produ...te=pricegrabber But Corsair also has some other sticks that they "recommend" for Dell and what not. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produ...te=pricegrabber Normally I'd say screw Corsairs recommendation and just get the cheap crap. But I am an Nforce2 owner and I know how picky the Nforce2 boards have been with memory. So my question is are Dells just as picky? If so should I go with the recommended ram or will the cheap crap be fine enough? Thanks!
Wired
Neither link works. I'm assuming the first one is Value Select, and the 2nd is System Select. Dells (and all OEMs) are picky as HELL when it comes to memory. Long story short, only what's on the Compatiblity site (http://compatible.corsairmemory.com) is guaranteed to be compatible. The VS MAY work with it (and only if you remove the Dell memory), while the SS memory will work with the Dell memory for sure. CMSS parts are built with a restricted bill of materials deemed to provide the best compatibility with OEM systems. As such, we often do not have the capability to use low cost material. JDookie
This question might have been asked many times before, but what is the actual difference between SS and VS, aside from the SS being more compatible with Dell systems? Is there actually a performace difference between the two that would make VS a better choice if you are removing the Dell OEM memory completely?? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 13, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 13, 2005 The VAlue Select and System Select modules are functionally the same. CMSS parts are built with a restricted bill of materials deemed to provide the best compatibility with OEM systems. As such, we often do not have the capability to use low cost material. I expect that the VS part will work correctly in your system. And, of course, Corsair's lifetime warranty is in full effect if it does not. Our confidence of first pass success is highest, however, with CMSS parts.
