calcustom
I built a great little system but have a situation where I can only use 1 stick of memory. If I install the other identical stick (this was a matched set) the system will not boot. I have checked both sticks and they are good. I also checked to make sure that the memory was in the correct slot according to the mb instruction book. I wrote the motherboard manufacturer and the correspondence went like this... Product Name KN1 SLI Extreme! Model Version 1.0d Problem Description I am trying to use 2 sticks of Corsair memory. CMX1024-3200C2PRO. It will only boot with 1 stick. How can I make it boot with 2 sticks? The reply.... Dear Valued Customer: The KN1 SLI motherboard was tested with 512MB PC3200, fully loaded from different manufacturer with no problem found. One of the memory modules might be faulty so you need to install the memory sticks one by one and run the system. If the system works fine with the memory modules installed separately then this can be a latency timing issue, the sticks might have different timing which is causing no boot. To eliminate this kind of issue, I suggest using identical memory chips that are low-density, non-ECC and un-buffered. So here I am with 2 really nice sticks of memory but can only use 1....
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 10, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 10, 2005 Will it boot with eirther module but not both at the same time? If so I would see about getting the CPU or MB replaced.
calcustom
Hi Ram Guy, Yes it boots with either module but not both at the same time. I was hoping there was a timing or something in bios that I could adjust. Sounds like I will be chasing this 1 :sigh!:
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 13, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 13, 2005 As long as both modules are the exact same part# and revision and both modules run one up with out problem that would suggest the memory controller is the problem. However, I have seen where the bios are not able to detect the CPU correctly will cause this as well. So please check that you have the latest bios from the MB maker as well. I flashed the bios and adjusted the CAS, TRCD, TRP and TRAS to the correct timings and the computer is stable and smokin fast. Thanks for the super support!
