kaveman
Hi I am having trouble getting my Flash Voyager 1G to boot. I have two 32mb keys I have successfully used to boot floppy disk images in the past (for BIOS flashing etc), so I bought a 1G flash voyager to use to boot BartPE/ISO images for system rescue (maybe even WinXP Setup CD), but am having no success to date. What I have tried: I have used Flashboot to create a bootable image with no errors, but no success in booting, so tried the Corsair utility to format and create a floppy boot instead to see if this would work at least, but on both instances, when booting I get the error 'NTLDR is missing', despite the utility indicating no issues in creating the bootable 'disk'. In all instances, checking the partition information in a HD utility indicates the partitions are indeed Active. As a point to note, no matter how it is formatted, the Corsair is recognised in my BIOS as a USB-FDD device in all instances (although curiously, my other 32mb drives both appear as USB-HDD). Is that right? Having failed with the Corsair Utility, to create the bootable USBs for my other 32mb drives, I used the HP USB Drivekey Utility, so I decided to try this on the Corsair too. Again the same result - all the files are copied and the partition is active, but the device fails to boot with the same error 'NTLDR is missing'. I am using a Ferrari 4005 laptop, 1G RAM, XP Pro with SP2. The laptop definitely supports USB booting as the other drivekeys and an external USB-HDD I use all work fine... just the Corsair I'm having issues with :S Any suggestions at all? I have utilities to play with things like MBR etc if this will help... I just don't know what settings I should try... Thanks in advance. SpDFrek
kaveman- The Corsair Flash Voyager is seen as a USB-FDD by BIOS as well as OS(Removable Drive VS. Local Disk). The BIOS of the machine that you are trying to boot from may not recognize the disk unless you are specifally able to say "Boot from USB-FDD". kaveman
Hi Thanks for the suggestion, but I am able to select the boot device correctly in the BIOS as USB-FDD, and it's even listed by name as Corsair Flash Voyager... so this isn't the problem... I'm still thinking there is some issue with how the MBR is set up on the device.... any other suggestions from anyone? Has anyone successfully copied an ISO/BartPE image to a Corsair Flash Voyage and managed to get it to boot?
Ultimo
kaveman- I was able to get BartPE to boot off my 1G Flash Voyager but you have to build it differently than the ISO method. I used Tom's Hardware as a guide which explains what you have to do. I had to use the RAM disk option to get it to work in the end. Good-luck. :):
