Moozzag
Looking for 1GB or 2GB memory modules for new Tyan S2877 (not yet purchased) MOB for use with two Opteron CPUs, rendering 3D is the appl. Is the CM72SD1024RLP-3200 the only available ECC Reg mem? Can you use TWINX2048RE-3200 modules, these don't show up in the ram configurator? Are there any single 2GB modules available? Does any ECC Reg RAM allow a little overclocking of CPU? Thanks
RJLeong65
Unfortunately, Tyan motherboards do not have any provision at all whatsoever for the manual setting of the DDR voltage. (That is, their memory voltage is permanently fixed at 2.5V.) But the XMS series modules (including all of the TwinX series) "require" at least 2.7V in order to work optimally. (Corsair tests their XMS modules at 2.75V, IIRC.)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 29, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 29, 2005 I would suggest using a module that suggested from their QVL list other wise they may not help you if you have a problem.
Moozzag
Thanks I didnt realise the DDR voltage limitations for Tyan, as a bit of a side issue, due you know whether the Supermicro H8DCE dual opteron MOB has similar limitations, so would face similar DDR memory selection issues? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 30, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 30, 2005 Yes, Tyan and SupperMicro both make a great MB but they are not very tolerant with memory, because they do not give many if any bios options!
