Sci2
Ram guy, I purchased a set of 3200C2PT sticks back in June, and recently installed some more intensive games (Half Life 2). My machine will crash out completely or to the desktop with a memory error consistently. It even occasionally crashes while browsing the web. In any event, after thinking it was driver issues and windows problems for the past month, I thought to test my memory. In Memtest86, test 5 fails at 98-100%. My settings are as follows: Asus A7N8 Deluxe 2.0, 1.08 bios revision 2.5-3-3-6 memory timings ( I tried bumping it up to 11 at someone's suggestion in a thread here, but it didn't help, obviously) Dimm voltage is at 2.7 CPU is a Athlon XP 3000+ Barton not overclocked (10.5x200) I tried each stick individually and they passed with flying colors. Tried the sticks in opposite slots with the same errors. Let me know if you need more info. Thank You.
Wired
Try them in a different system, because if they passed when alone, they should pass together. Sounds like it may be the memory controller on your motherboard. May want to update the BIOS as well though.
Sci2
1.08 is the latest bios revision.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 29, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 29, 2005 If you only receive errors in memtest when both modules are in the dual-channel mode, then the problem is with the motherboard itself. If the memory passes one-up then the issue is most likely not with the RAM.
dalbert
I just got the TWINX2048-3200C2 set and experienced problems in memtest86 at more aggressive settings. The BIOS defaulted the memory to 2.6V, 3-3-3-8. Running memory at 2.7V (only higher option is 2.8V) , dual channel, and 200MHz, --At 2-3-3-6 and 2.5-3-3-6, I got thousands of errors in test 5. --At 3-3-3-6, I ran all night with only two test 5 errors. These occurred at the very start, and my room was very warm ~78 degF. The mem modules did get very hot during all memtest86 testing. I consider this a stable configuration because I usually keep the house at 76 degF or less (Florida). My mobo has run at 2-3-3-6 with 2x256 3200 dual channel fine for years, so I suspect the amount of RAM is a factor. I agree that the ASUS mobo is probably marginal with large amounts of RAM and dual channel. Several months ago I tried another major, performance brand of RAM at 2x512 3200C2, and I had the same problems at CAS less than 3. Each stick ran fine alone or in single-channel mode at CAS <3, but not in dual mode. Good luck! [EDIT] I guess the system specs from my profile don't get posted automatically. Asus A7N8X Deluxe, v2.0, BIOS 1.08 AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (10x200MHz) ATI 9800 Pro 128MB CPU is water cooled, RAM and northbridge have low-speed 80mm fan on them. Wired
System specs are in every post you make automatically (next to name). Are you mixing with other memory, or just running the TwinX2048 by itself? Tried 2.75 volts yet?
dalbert
Oh, neat feature with the system specs. I am running only the TwinX 2048 by itself. Voltage options are only 2.6V, 2.7V, or 2.8V. There is no option for 2.75V, and BIOS v1.08 is the latest for the v2.0 pcb mobo. Is it safe/okay/within warranty to run TwinX2048-3200C2 at 2.8V? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 12, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 12, 2005 Yes up to 2.9 Volts I would suggest 2.7 Volts with this MB and memory.
