lexanoroc
about 5 months, I built a computer, i ordered corsair matched pair of 1gb(2x512s) the model number being Corsair TWIN2X1024A-6400 1GB Kit DDR2-800 XMS2-6400 Xtreme Performance Memory with black heat sinks. Recently, I downloaded a program called Everest home edition to monitor my machine. When i looked at the memory category, i discovered that 1 dim was indeed corsair 6400, however the other was a Spectek 512mb 533mhz. Prior to this, i noticed in the beginning that my computer never read my memory as 6400, but instead 4300. I looked at the faulty dimm and it says its a cosair 6400. I put the faulty dim in by itself, and the program read it as spectek. I put the authentic one in by itself, and the computer reads it as 6400. I am going to get my rma now, just letting everyone know of this incident in case anyone else has this problem with that memory.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 29, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 29, 2005 The information you are seeing from Everest is merely noting the Memory IC chip used. Some of our modules do not get the Corsair label that is viewable in Everrest but this does not mean it is not an authentic Corsair part. Most systems will not detect any module at the full PC-6400 speeds and it must be set manually in the motherboard BIOS in order to run at 6400. lexanoroc
I understand what your saying, however, when you buy a matched pair of memory, they should at least read the same speed. The name of the chips is just one part. i have not been able to reach speeds of over 533mhz when both dimms are in the motherboard. Clearly this has been an over site. Additionally, after looking at them physically, i have noticed from what i can see of the actual dim under the heat sink, it is visibly different looking. Thus adding to my point these dimms are not the same.
