Reliant85
I have a Tyan s2875 motherboard. It originally had TWINX2048RE-3200 RAM in it, and I recently purchased another set of TWINX2048RE-3200 to increase the RAM to 4GB. However the system wouldn’t boot after I put the 2 new sticks in. so I removed the two new sticks, and the system booted. Then I took out the old sticks and put in the new stick, and the system booted. But when all 4 sticks are in the system won’t boot. I noticed that the two old sticks are XMS3200REv3.2 (0528121-1) and the two new sticks are XMS3200REv4.1 (0542074-1). What is the difference between v3.2 and v4.1? Why don’t the two versions work together, and is there anyway I can get the two versions to work together?
Wired
It's never recommended to mix versions.
Reliant85
Thanks, but which one of the 2 are better, and what’s the difference between them?
Wired
Neither is better, and the difference is just the IC used.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 29, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 29, 2005 Wired is correct its not suggested to mix memroy with most MB's today. But as long as these are the same part# they should be fine together. Please double check the part# is exactly the same.
Reliant85
They both are CMX1024RE-3200, XMS3200R 1024MB 400MHz 3.3.3.8. The only thing that’s different is that one is XMS3200REv4.1 (0542074-1), and the other one is XMS3200Rev3.2 (0528121-1). I’m just going to see is I can exchange the v3.2s for v4.1s Thanks for the help guys. Too bad they dont tell you the version number befor you buy it
