granta
Reading the maximum PC review, they have thrown a question up. They are concerrned regarding using the attached security features. I am looking for a USB Flash drive that can be password protected, if this is a hidden partition or the complete drive. But reading the review, they kind of give the impression that you have to have the software installed on every machine. I will be taking the drive to various offices and will be using it to install software and dont want to be having to install other software from a CD before I can use the drive. Please can you explain how the security features work, do they need the software, can it be stored on the drive, or does it need to be on a CD. Thanks Granta
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 14, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 14, 2005 You would only need the software installed on a system that you want to view the protected partition on. If the drive is not password protected you would not need to install the software. And you can make the partition all one drive or just a portion of the whole size. granta
So what you are saying is that. I will need to install the software on all the machines, as we will be wanting to use the passworded section all the times. Could this be copied to the flash drive and just run everytime you want to see the partition??? Granta
Wired
Ram Guy and/or Jack Flash would have to confirm this, but I think it places some stuff in the registry. You could probably run the install files off of the drive though.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 15, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 15, 2005 Maybe, but you would need to have an un-secure partition on the drive for these files.

Is it possible to have only the password protected area - i.e. one drive only that is password protected? If it is possible, how would I do this? As at present the application that shipped with the cd allows me to reduce the non password partition to 8Mb but not get rid of it. thanks
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 2, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 2, 2005 You would just set the secure partition to "0" then you can make the non secure partition any size up to the max size of the drive and Vise Versa. wyvern971
You would just set the secure partition to "0" then you can make the non secure partition any size up to the max size of the drive and Vise Versa. using the corsair application supplied with the drive only has a slide bar and does not allow setting the secure partition to the full size of the drive but seems to require a minimum of 8Mb for the unsecure partition. Is there a newer version of the software which allows the non-secure to be set to zero? (if there is where can i download it?) ta
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 5, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 5, 2005 When you click the format option it should give you the option to create a secure partition or not.
wyvern971
When I click the "format" option the following is displayed if no Security partition has been set: http://www.wyvern971.f2s.com/Corsair4.JPG no option for creating a security drive is available, and no prompt appears. When a partition is set for a security drive, an option to format the security drive becomes available. http://www.wyvern971.f2s.com/Corsair2.JPG However it is not possible to change the entire drive to a security drive using the version of the utility supplied with the usb key. http://www.wyvern971.f2s.com/Corsair1.JPG A non secure partition with a minimum of 8Mb is always created, it does not give the option to completely change the drive to a password protected drive. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted December 6, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted December 6, 2005 I will ask JackFlash to help you with this.
SpDFrek
You can not set the non secure partition to "0". There is a minimum drive space required within the software as you have stated of 8mb. The Corsair Flash Utility can be stored on this partition so that when you do travel with the device to other host machines you can install the software on that machine and have access to your secure partition. You can hack the software if you spend enough time and find the files required and keep only those files on the non secure partition so that you can basically use the "Check Password" function of the utility without actually having the utility installed on the host machine. This of course would not be supported by Corsair or the EULA. :(:
