bad module

Recommended Posts

i have a matched set of xms4000 pro that one of the sticks has gone bad.

i cant get it to run at 200 fsb anymore. it started having random problems, lock ups, bad boots, when i lowered the fsb to below stock it seemed to be able to run. the other stick is fine.

i originally bought this ram from newegg and rmaed it sometime ago so this is the second set that one stick has gone bad.

i tried in in 2 different computers, i know its not from my mobo or related to anything else because the original set was in a different mobo.

the original rma request

thanks, illya

Can you tell me our modules part# (How To Read the Memory Label) and the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set? And did you get the modules replaced the last time?

sure, the part # is cmx512-4000pro xms4000v3.1

asus p4c800e motherboard, pent m 750 with a ct-479 adapter

running 200 fsb with a 10 divider making my cpu at 2.0ghz

ram timings were 3448 but that was at auto in bios.

everything was on auto in bios except for the fsb and divider and agp was set to 66.33

this is a different motherboard then my original one i had the other ram that i had a problem with, same type of mobo though. i have 3 computers.

i have tested this ram in 3 motherboards with the same results, my other ram runs fine in the asus mobo that this was in.

its only one stick that has a problem, it started with random reboots and freezin up, to the point where it wouldnt boot, after testing everything else i discovered that one stick wont run at 200 fsb.

they had replaced the ram last year when one stick had just stopped working all together.

it has never even been in my other computer that the original ram was in though so it cant be caused by the motherboard unless they are somehow incompatible with the asus p4c800e boards. but it ran fine for a year in this mobo, and the mobo is running fine now with other ram.

so i have no clue as to why it stopped working

Please set the Dim Voltage to 2.85 volts and then set the timings manually to (Cass 3-3-3-8), and then test the module/modules one at a time with www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with this MB you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.

i tested them in 3 different motherboards with the same results, one stick is fine and one stick wont boot unless i set it well below 200fsb.

the bad stick will boot at 166 fsb though. i guess im gonna send them to you and you can check them out.
