Problem with 2 CMX512-3200C2 sticks

Recommended Posts

I purchased 2 Corsair CMX512-3200C2 sticks from Newegg a few months ago.

I tried the memory in my older box:

ASUS VM277

Duron 1.3

Win 2K Pro

The sys was very unstable. My neighbor was just building a new system using an Intel Celeron (Prescott core). I attempted to sell him the memory but his system also became unstable.

Answer ... Build a newer system. I just built a new box:

ASROCK 989 DUAL (ULI BIOS v1.3)

AMD 64 3500+

Radeon 9200 XT

2 WD 120GB HDs

and the 2 Corsair memory modules

Win XP

The new system is taking memory dumps about 5 minutes after the sign on.

Help!!!!

:(:

Please set the Dim Voltage to 2.7X volts and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, and then test the module/modules one at a time with www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure.

I apologize you are correct ASUS never made a VM277 it is the A7N266-VM.

That is beside the point. The new PC is a ASROCK 939 Dual with 2 XMS3202 v1.5 (rev 1.5 I assume). The newest BIOS Uli BIOS is loaded (v1.3). CAS setting was set to AUTO so I changed it to 2.0. There was no where to set the voltage for the memory so I could set it to 2.7v. I also tured off Quite and Cool based on some other post I found on this site. The floppy I created with memtest (from memtest.org) would not boot, so I used the memtest product from microsoft.

I ran the software with one memory stick and out of 23 passes I got 4 LRAND failures and 1 WMATS+ failure. I then loaded the second memory module into the same DRAM slot and got 3 LRAND"s and 1 WMATS+ in 15 passes.
