clone
hi I bought 2 twin-X packs of 1024memory XMS 4400 and attempted to use it with an Asrock dual sata II motherboard with the ULI chipset... the results were inconsistent until I replaced the Corsair memory with a different company's product, besides that the motherboard bios isn't overclocking friendly enough so a replacement is going to be bought. I've since read rumours mentioning that some motherboards don't overclock well with Corsair much like the exp I had with the Asrock/ULI board and I want to make certain the board I get won't have any issues with my memory. the price for the motherboard isn't really an issue but I'd hate to buy a DFI RDX xpress 200 board (which apparently was optimised with Crucial memory during it's testing) retailing for 200+ and find out it really isn't in love with the Corsair, the same goese for any other board. is their any board that was specifically tested and certified with Corsair in mind, preferably AMD socket 939 based but not limited by that choice? the mentioned DFI board lists compatibility with my Corsair but I want to get the best out of this water cooled rig without having to worry about any possible memory issues. my goal is to run the 4400 at 466mhz using 2-2-2-7 timings if possible if using AMD or 550mhz at slated timings if using an Intel platform although i'm uncertain Intel even cares about DDR anymore. Wired
Firstly, 4 sticks @ 550 Mhz is doubtful. You'd be better off going with TWINX2048-4000PT (2 sticks @ 500 Mhz). is their any board that was specifically tested and certified with Corsair in mind, preferably AMD socket 939 basedThat pretty much screams the TwinX2048-3500LLPRO / A8N32-SLI combo. http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair/asus_launch.html
clone
I already have the memory so swapping would involve a significant loss. the options as I see them are to find a motherboard that will run 4 sticks at 466mhz with the lowest timings I can manage or switch to an Intel platform that will support 550mhz although I consider Intel to be gaming garbage compared to AMD and am reluctant to even consider them. I'm still looking into ATI crossfire motherboards atm and will be contacting DFI to see how the RDX200 was tested.
Yellowbeard
If you wanted to get really exotic you could use a P4C800E Deluxe with the socket 479 adapter. Then, you could put a Dothan Mobile CPU in there. This combo was tested somewhere as was a DFI version and found to spank both Intel socket 478/775 and AMD 754/939 in gaming apps. Those mobiles typically OC pretty well so you may actually get a neat setup this way. However, I would Google and see what success others are having first as I have not heard lots of feedback yet. pie_uk
technically AMD are not rated to run memory higher than pc3200 lol
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 15, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 15, 2005 Neither is AMD based DDR1 systems.
Yellowbeard
JEDEC for DDR1 ended at 3200 regardless of platform. Mike.

clone
AMD's are not rated to run past PC 3200 but as is typically the case in regards to overclocking "officially supported" speeds are entirely irrelavent in regards to overclocking. the optimal speed for AMD is 466mhz from the benchmarks I've researced and I wanted to be able to run at 466mhz with 2-2-2-7 timings or as close as possible, hence the reason I chose the 550mhz memory that runs at looser timings but my hope is that while running the lower speed rating I can tighten the timings. I've recently sold 3 computers and my own system is now in doubt althougth it was supposed to be an AMD based setup with a Sapphire motherboard a customer really wants the Sapphire I have mounted before Xmas and I don't have a 2nd in stock so I still have the option of switching to Intel, although it's highly doubtful and more likely I'll get another AMD setup.
