1GB DDR XMS3200LLPT TwinX

I'm upgrading my machine using an ASUS nForce4 SLI motherboard and AMD 64 CPU. I presently have 1GB DDR XMS3200LLPT TwinX (2x512) and cannot find a retailer in the UK that sells this memory so that I can install a total of 2 GB (4x512, all matching). Can you please advise a suitable memory so that I will end up with 2 sticks of the existing memory plus 2 further sticks recommended by yourself installed.

cheers,

nick

Welcome to the forums, nickpike!

Unfortunately, the 512MB modules of 3200LL are rather hard to find and anything other than the exact same model/part/revision of what you had is not in the list of suggestable alternatives.

With AMD64 systems, it's a very good idea for all of your modules to match. Also, running more than 2 modules will result in you're command rate being forced to a 2T instead of 1T... this will cause a fairly severe drop in memory performance!

If you want 2GB on an A64 system, the only suggestion I can give is to use 2 * 1GB modules or sit tight with your 2 * 512MB until you can justify the upgrade. You might be able to run 4 * 512, but your latencies will probably suffer as well as overall performance and it could end up being unstable.

Regardless, what is the revision on your 3200LL modules? They may actually be worth a pretty penny and ease a 2 * 1GB transition on your wallet.

Many thanks for the advice. Would you recommend a pair of memory modules? What I am finding readily available is

2GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX (2x1GB). I don't want to overclock. I'm actually attempting to purchase an optimum system for running MS Flight Simulator (if that helps). Would these modules work well with the motherboard and CPU I mentioned earlier?

cheers,

nick
