Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 3, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 3, 2005 They are the same module as far as the memory goes only the color of the heat spreader is different. And yes they will run great in that MB, just install them in slots 1-3 or 2-3 and set the memory voltage to 2.7 Volts and you should be good to go! cteague3
I have applied all suggestions that I have found in these forums. I've got the MOBO and CPU combo kit somebody gave me about 2 years ago that sat in a corner in a box shrink-wrapped until I threw it all into a new case and such last week. I purchased this 2GB TWINX2048 ram for it. I pulled the heat sink off, put a new cooler and grease on it, etc. I've tried every slot, swapped them around etc. I've noticed the longest time before failure is in slots 2 and 3. I've set the DDR voltage at 2.7v, and tried the steppings at both default and the recommended settings from these forums. I've upgraded the BIOS all the way to 1008.x, and fallen all the way back to 1005. Still can't seem to get WinXP Pro x64, to complete the install. Once the setup reboots and comes into Windows, I get blue screen somewhere in there. I've run MEMTEST86+ (1.65) and the best I can get thru is after the first pass, with the chips in slot 2 and 3. In 1 and 2, it fails before the end of the first pass, and not much longer after that in 1 and 3. What BIOS version does Corsair recommend to run this ram in this MOBO, and/or, do you have some different ram you recommend running in this thing. I only bought the ram basically because of the recommendation of this forum. Do you think this is a POS MOBO? I was under the impression it was a decent board. Thanx. -Chip
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 10, 2007 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 10, 2007 Chip, Please load setup defaults with the latest bios installed and then set the memory voltage to 2.7 Volts and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org. If you have done this what were the results? And have you tried to install the O.S. on just aIDE HDD or was this a Raid configuration? And what is the error you get in the install? Also please list the complete system spec.
cteague3
------------------------------------- Please load setup defaults with the latest bios installed and then set the memory voltage to 2.7 Volts and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org. If you have done this what were the results? ------------------------------------- I will try this, and get back to you on it. Can you please tell me which version you consider the latest version? There is a bunch of 1008.x versions, but I think they are all considered beta, even though they are all dated 2005. Does this mean you consider 1007 to be the latest version? ------------------------------------- And have you tried to install the O.S. on just aIDE HDD or was this a Raid configuration? And what is the error you get in the install? Also please list the complete system spec. ------------------------------------- I am installing on one SATA IDE drive on the primary VIA SATA controller. The drive is "new", and I know it works as I have used it in a different computer, albeit briefly. Do you think it is important to try the install on a single parallel IDE drive? The blue screen error is always Page Fault in Non Pageable area (something to that effect). I can get the actual error number for you if needed. It will happen at any of these points: during CD Key entry, after computer name entry, after date/time entry, after network default settings selection. I've run Memtest on the two modules over night last night with 1005 BIOS and both modules installed (slots 1 & 3), and I get a slew of errors starting well into pass 1. Right now after 8 passes, 114 errors -- as FYI. Here are the specs: Athlon 64 3200+ TWINX2048-3200C2PT 250GB Hitachi SATA II HDT722525DLA380 ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder 9700 Pro AGP Sony DVD-RW AW-Q170A 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy CoolerMaster Centurion Case XFinity 500W ATX Power Supply Zalman CNPS9700LED CPU Cooler
cteague3
First module just returned 6 errors in test #8 in pass 0. This is default settings (3-3-3-8) for v1007 BIOS with one module in slot 0 @2.7v. I'm going to pull it out and put in the other and test it. cteague3
Second module made it thru pass 0 with no errors. Is this a definitive indicator of a bad module? -- Updated: It is now in pass 7 with no errors reported.
cteague3
Should I set up an RMA? Or do you have some other ideas? Do you guys have an option where I can give you my credit card number and have you ship the replacement modules to me before I send these back? I'm using this machine for work, and need to keep it running as much as possible.
