AnomalyMD
Hi, I was running a gig of pc3200 XMS Xpert (ddr 400) ram until I got a gig of pc3200 XLPRO (ddr 400). I have an ASUS a8n sli premium mobo so the CAS latencies on all four sticks are read as 2.5. Whenever I try to insert all four sticks, my bios reads the 2 gbs but when the windows loading screen comes up, it says the windows32 setup config file is either missing or corrupted, and to insert the windows disc to try to repair this. I have tried every combination and I still have the same problem, sometimes I just get a black screen where the windows loading screen is suppposed to come up. I know the windows file isn't missing, because windows boots fine with only 1 gig installed. In my mobo there is no way to set the memory latencies, but that must not be the problem because it says 2gb (2048 MB) in my bios. btw, I have an AMD FX-55 and windows xp professional service pack 2. Please help, thanks.:(:
CMC_SAVAGE
You would not be able to mix the modules on this platform There is to much of a difference in the IC's for the Memoory Controller to handle.
AnomalyMD
oh ok, I'll send my Xperts back and get two more of the other. thanks a lot.
CMC_SAVAGE
All the XL's use the same IC's, so you should be good.
AnomalyMD
ok I got two more Xpert sticks today (because the XL's are still withing the 30day RMA deal, going to send those back) and put all four Xpert sticks in. I've tried multiple combinations of CAS latency settings from the BIOS and it still has the same problem. Sometimes , windows will actually load and go into the desktop but then crash and say the same file I mentioned in my other post was corrupt or missing. Now it gets to the screen where I can choose to boot from last known conditions that worked properly but anything I choose just locks the computer up. Once again my BIOS is reading the 2 GBs and at default reads them at CL 2.5 and 333mhz(doesn't work anyway)...could someone go down the list and tell me what I should set all the timings at? It can't be the ram because all four sticks are read and are the same exact thing...
CMC_SAVAGE
It can't be the ram because all four sticks are read and are the same exact thing... I thought you were getting 4 sticks of the XL's. Anyway, all 4 sticks of the XPERTS need to be the same Version #.
AnomalyMD
They are the exact same thing...my BIOS even reads them all on default at the same speeds. I set all four of them seperately to 2-3-3-6 and 333mhz still windows xp won't boot. What should I do with the timings under those four...? It has to be something to do with my BIOS, I've spent so much money on ram trying to just get 2GBs running because 1GB is bottlenecking like crazy on games...gah. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 4, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 4, 2005 What do you have the voltage set to and the command Rate? I would set the voltage to 2.8 Volts and set the Command Rate to 2T. Moving to Compatibility Questions!
CMC_SAVAGE
Make sure you have the latest BIOS installed. Bump the Dimm Voltage to 2.8 and set the timings to 2.5-3-3-6 2T. You could also check each module with Memtest.
AnomalyMD
I tried those settings and windows loaded slowly and ran very unstable, and sometimes it restarts by itself. I've checked every stick and they are all working properly, it seems like everytime I restart it does something different, sometimes it STILL comes up with the corrupt file screen saying that my windows/system32/config/system file is corrupt or missing. It asks me to insert my windows disc in to repair it, but I don't understand how that could be the problem if windows starts sometimes and reads 2.00GB. When I first tried 2.5 at 2.8 volts, it started OK but when I went to start a game, everything started freezing and acting weird, and it gave me a message saying that memory could not be read, or something along those lines. Could someone tell me what the numbers under the 2.5-3-3-6 should be, because the A8n reads funky stuff on auto.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 9, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 9, 2005 I would try and set the memory frequency at DDR333 and set the timings to Cas 2.5-3-3-7 at 2.8 Volts and see if the system will pass http://www.memtest.org.
