Yurg
Hi, new to the forums but am really stuck with my latest problem, hope you guys can help. I've been running an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe with 2 256mb 3200C2PT modules (bought seperately) for many months now with no problems at all but felt it was time to upgrade so I ordered a single 512mb 3200C2PT module to upgrade to 1gb, and made the stupid mistake of forgetting I need to install the modules in pairs on my board. Thinking nothing of it, I ordered another of the same model, stuck them all in and it worked fine. At least I thought it did. Started getting random crashes in games (Fable, CoD2 & others) and after much head scratching I pulled out the 2 new 512mb modules and noticed they had different info on the labels and when I ran my rig without the new memory the crashes disappeared. I ran windows memory test overnight on the thorough test settings with all the sticks in and it detected no errors but I'm sure thats my problem. Anyhow, here's the info off my modules 1] CMX256A-3200C2PT XMS3202v1.1 0304095 2] CMX256A-3200C2PT XMS3202v1.2 0404095 3] CMX512-3200C2PT XMS3202v4.2 0521128-0 4] CMX512-3200C2PT XMS3202v5.1 0505024-4 Like I said, with modules 1 & 2 only I have no problems and rig is stable, when I add 3 & 4, I get random crashes etc :(: Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Yurg.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 1, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 1, 2005 I am sorry but with this MB all of the modules would need to be exactly matched. I would suggest you find another use for the older module or modules and then see if the reseller will let you send the new modules back and order one Twinx2048-3200C2 set of modules for best performance. Yurg
Ah, that's unfortunate. Ok well off to write a pleading RMA request! Thanks for your help. EDIT: I meant to ask, given that my system runs stably with the 2 256mb modules, would they not work with a Twinx1024 matched pair? Just trying to keep within budget! The TwinX1024 matched pair will almost certainly be of a completely different revision than your existing 256MB modules. And mixing two or more completely different versions of the same memory will lead to problems, regardless of whether the memory is running in single- or dual-channel. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted November 3, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted November 3, 2005 I would not suggest it but if they are the same revision and basic part# (XMS3200C2) they may work but you would still have some limitations that in my opinion would not be worth the added 512 Meg of memory. You would be better off with one Twinx set of modules.
