one module of vs512mb400 failing memtest86

Hi,

I have an abit av8 with an athlon 3000+ and a pair of vs512mb400 sticks.

With both sticks in I was unable to install the OS on this sucker with the ram in slots 1 and 2.

I switched to some other ram to get it done.

I finally decided to troubleshoot this and after reading through some of these posts I made the following changes and ran memtest on the modules individually in slot 1.

1.)Flashed to the latest bios

2.)set the voltage to 2.7.(up from 2.65)

3.)I have the dram timing set to "by spd"

When individually testing each of these modules, one of them starts producing errors on test #6.

Can you let me know if there's anything else I can try or should I just get an rma going? I definitely want to see the benefits of dual channel on this pc.

Oh one last question, is it true that with this motherboard, I would not be able to use all 4 mem slots at 400mhz?

thanks!

Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

And yes with most MB's if you use more than 2 double sided modules you may need to slow the memory down because of loading on the memory controller.
