TWIN2X2048-6400 - Very weird benchmark scores

TechNet

Recommended Posts

TWIN2X2048-6400 / XMS2-6400 / DDR2-800 / 6400

I have this kit in a Shuttle SD31P which uses the Intel i945G chipset. Other componetns include an Intel Pentium P660 (3.6Ghz) and a nVidia 7800GT.

The results below have been tested at 5-5-5-12 with 1.9v upto 2.1V at an FSB of 200mhz and a multiplier of 3:5 meaning the memory is running at 667Mhz.

The machine has passed a MEMCHECK 1.6 run over 24 hours without error.

When I run SiSandra 2005 the Memory Bandwidth Benchmark I get the following results :-

RAM Bandwidth Int Buff'd iSSE2 : 5317 MB/s (this is what I would expect to see)

RAM Bandwidth Float Buff'd iSSE2 : 759 MB/s (this is about 1/8th of what it should be!!)

Results Interpretation : Higher index values are better.

Int Buff'd iSSE2 (Integer STREAM) Results Breakdown

Assignment : 5218MB/s

Scaling : 5196MB/s

Addition : 5387MB/s

Triad : 5467MB/s

Data Item Size : 16 byte(s)

Buffering Used : Yes

Offset Displacement Used : Yes

Bandwidth Efficiency : 75% (estimated)

Float Buff'd iSSE2 (Float STREAM) Results Breakdown

Assignment : 761MB/s

Scaling : 764MB/s

Addition : 760MB/s

Triad : 754MB/s

Data Item Size : 16 byte(s)

Buffering Used : Yes

Offset Displacement Used : Yes

Bandwidth Efficiency : 11% (estimated)

I then tried the memory benchmarks in Everest Home Edition and they were also about a 1/5th of what they should be.

HELP!!!!

The only other info. I can tell you is I originally had the TWIN2X1024-5400C4 kit in the same machine and I was getting benchmarks in the low 5000s for both tests as I would have expected.

Do I have a faulty module(s)?

I have done some more tests.

If I only put one 1GB module in the machine (doesn't matter which one or in which memory slot) the bandwidth tests all show the sort of scores one would expect. Therefore the issue seems to be caused when the 2 modules are run together giving 2GB!

Have no idea what to try now as the machine supports 2Gb RAM

There was another thread similar to this a few moments ago, I suggested updating the BIOS to the latest version to be certain that is not the issue. After that, make sure you have all the latest chipset drivers installed in the system and verify that you have the RAM inserted in the recommend slots. See if these options help.

BIOS is latest version for my Shuttle SD31P. As are all the drivers etc. from Intel and nVidia. The machine only has 2 slots and works fine with your 5400C4 TWINX pack.

Forgot to add that we build these types of machines for a living so we know the usual suspects which cause issues. Please be advised that all 3 people so far on this thread use totally different types of machine but are getting the same issues so it looks memory specific.

Is this not something you can test to see if you get the same problem? I really wouldn't have raised this if I didn't think that Corsair should be a tad concerned.

I would suspect some issue with the test or tests if not bios and or driver. Memory will work or it will not and slow performance would usually only be caused if it were memory by a failing part which you would see by running http://www.memtest.org. However, we can try replacing the modules if you like!. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
