SwampFox
I want to buy 3ea, 1GB Corsair Memory. I have a set of Twinx PC3200LL XMS (512) (2-256) running on my ASUS A7N8+ a 512 stick Pc3200LL for a total of 1GB. I'll sell these. Board is Asus A7N8X Deluxe v2.0 board with a AMD 3000 400MHz CPU. I do not over clock, etc. But I do want dual channel operation (I think)This machine is being dedicated to Photoshop CS2 editing only.. I want to purchase 3 ea 1GB Corsair RAM for a total of 3 GB on board. I don't think I need anything fancy but stable and dual channel. so... What is the LEAST expensive Corsair Memory to fit these specs, and what clock settings? Thanks Jimmie
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 28, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 28, 2005 I would not suggest more than 2 1.0 Gig modules for best performance. So one of these would be best. VS2GBKit400C3 Cas 3-3-3-8 at DDR400 best Value! Twinx2048-3200C2 Cas 2.5-3-3-6 Twinx2048-3500LLPro Cas 2-3-2-6 Best performance!
SwampFox
What about the TwinX2048-3200 (3-4-4-8) ? I noticed a couple retailers have this on sale....Would I really see a difference with Photoshop editing between any of these choices you listed? RJLeong65
What about the TwinX2048-3200 (3-4-4-8) ? I noticed a couple retailers have this on sale....Would I really see a difference with Photoshop editing between any of these choices you listed? Thanks Actually, the TwinX2048-3200 is rated at CAS 3-3-3-8 timings. Think of those modules as the TwinX2048-3200C2 modules which don't quite make the cut at CAS 2 or CAS 2.5 latency timings. You see, if just one module out of a particular batch of would-be CMX1024-3200C2 modules fails testing at CAS 2 (or CAS 2.5 on AMD Socket A and early Athlon64/Sempron platforms), the entire batch gets binned and retested at CAS 3. If all of the tested modules in that same batch pass at CAS 3, that batch of modules will be sold as the CMX1024-3200 (without the C2). (The TwinX2048 is just a matched pair of CMX1024 modules which have been retested together at the same certified timings - CAS 3-3-3-8 in the case of the plain 3200, or CAS 2-3-3-6/CAS 2.5-3-3-6 in the case of the 3200C2 - on several dual-channel platforms.) Go for the TwinX2048-3200 only if that kit is priced anywhere close to the VS2GBKit400C3 kit. But more typically, the TwinX2048-3200 kit is priced much closer to the TwinX2048-3200C2 kit - in which case the VS2GBKit400C3 and TwinX2048-3200C2 kits are better values.
