mmmiller
I recently built my computer, specs. a follows; ASUS A8V Deluxe MB HITICHI 160GB SATA HDD AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU 2048 4 X 512 Corsair Value Select VS1GBKIT400 My problem is that I'am having trouble figuring out the DDR "timing". I thought the DDR timing should be 200MHZ. But if I use a program like "CPUZ" it shows the DDR timing as 172.8MHZ. What I REALLY do not understand is that these "settings" are those of the chipset, and I thought that the memory controller was on the AMD CPU which would be at 200MHZ. I'am your humble servant if you could explain this,
RJLeong65
It's a limitation of the memory controller on the Athlon64 CPU. You can use two matched DIMMs in dual-channel at DDR400 - but filling all four memory slots on your motherboard will default the memory clock speed to DDR333. And since you have the Value Select memory (which runs at a default CAS 2.5-3-3-8-2T anyway), you may not be able to get your Value Select memory to run stable at DDR400 with all four modules installed. (You could, but you probably will have to loosen the timings to something like CAS 3-4-4-8-2T.) A better choice for 2GB of total memory with that AMD system would be the XMS series TWINX2048-3200C2 package, which consists of a matched pair of CMX1024-3200C2 modules. That way, you can run the memory at DDR400 without all the troubles that four completely filled memory slots have given you.
