Another 2GB Voyager killed

Well, another 2GB Flash Voyager has gone bad on me. It shows up on the PC with about .250gb free, 1.75gb used, but nothing in the folder.

This is the second one that has gone sideways on me. I dunno what it is that I'm doing wrong exactly. Do you guys analyze them when you get them back? Is there anything you can tell me?

Can I do another RMA now? Or is there something else I can try?

The attached picture ought to help you look at what I'm talking about, if you care.

Will it let you format the drive? You might try and format it from a DOS prompt if you can and see what happens. But we can try replacing the drive if you like. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

C:\Documents and Settings\Derrill>format f:

Insert new disk for drive F:

and press ENTER when ready...

The type of the file system is RAW.

Please use the /FS switch to specify the file system

you wish to use on this volume.

C:\Documents and Settings\Derrill>format /FS:FAT32 f:

Insert new disk for drive F:

and press ENTER when ready...

The type of the file system is RAW.

The new file system is FAT32.

Verifying 1984M

Invalid media or Track 0 bad - disk unusable.

If I try the format in Windows, it says simply "Windows is unable to complete the format."

See, I don't mind doing the RMA thing - my boss gives me a new one and I RMA the old one, and we put the replacement back on the shelf when it comes. But I'd sure like to be able to figure out what if anything I'm doing wrong, so I can not do it again.

In the past, I've unknowningly plugged these guys into USB ports that had such incorrect PIN configurations that it hard shut down the PC, and nothing happened to the Voyager.

I had it in a Win2k laptop the other day, and the laptop didn't quite recognize it or something, and it couldn't find some of the files that I had on it. After that the Voyager didn't work anymore. Should I just not plug it into Win2k machines anymore?
