golfrdude
sup all, i was running an intel p4 socket t on an asus p5gd1 all of last year. i finally got an nforce 4 setup with an athlon 64 3700++ (smokes the intel, no comparison). im currently running a gig of xms (2-2-2-5) (2x512) in dual channel, and it is working flawlessly. i really want to upgrade to 2 gigs (4x512) but i heard somewhere on newegg that the athlon 64 or the nforce 4's memory controller can't handle four sticks of XMS. Is this true? my board is a DFI nforce 4 ultra. any help would be appreciated. here is the actual quote and link to the guys rant: Noah, 10/10/2005 11:20:04 PM awesome ram, but stick to 1GB on an A64 Awesome, awesome RAM -- blistering performance (BF2, WinXP, everything is sooo fast!), looks good, solid build, and stays relatively cool. BUT BE CAREFUL: If you are running an A64, do NOT get four of these (2GB). You cannot run 1T command cycle with four SDRAM chips -- it's a problem w/ the A64 memory controller. If you need 2GB, get two 1GB chips. I have four and am stuck at 2T (which is a big performance hit). FYI. TWINX1024-3200XLPT
CMC_SAVAGE
If you have 1GB of the 3200Xl's then adding another pair should be no problem. However, your CPU would have to be a newer San Diego/Venice core to run 4 sticks at DDR 400. Otherwise the RAM woul default to 333MHz. The command Rate is a MOBO/Bios issue. You may have to run 2T, but even so, the performance lost isn't that great.
